Subject: Caversham Winter Warmer 17-22 Nov 2004 From: GUEST,KingBrilliant Date: 17 Nov 04 - 06:34 AM Hi all This weekend is the Caverham Winter Warmer festival. Based in local pubs - the main events are fri,sat & sun - but with pub sessions either side to give a decent run. Mike Tierney does a great job of pulling this one together, and it is all in aid of charity (no entrance fee, but plenty of collection boxes). Do come & support the event if you get the chance. There are bar concerts & session/singarounds - should be great (the last one was). Its not a massive festival, but it does have a buzz because the venues are so small. One thing to be aware of is that it is not particularly child-friendly - I think that maybe the only venue that allows kids is the Clifton Arms (may be best to ring and check first if you are en famille). URL for the details is : www.ccff.org.uk cheers Kris |

I knew I'd leave something out!!!! - was so focussed on making sure it was clear WHEN it was that I completely forgot the where. Probably because Cav is the centre of the universe anyway.... Cheers Guest for adding that info. Kris |
Subject: RE: Caversham Winter Warmer 17-22 Nov 2004 From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 17 Nov 04 - 08:18 AM A bit short notice, Kris, or I might have tried to make one of the blues sessions but have family committments this weekend. Still smarting at turning up at the Clifton Arms last summer to find the usual CFF fringe skiffle session wasn't running! RtS |
Subject: RE: Caversham Winter Warmer 17-22 Nov 2004 From: GUEST,KingBrilliant Date: 17 Nov 04 - 08:30 AM Sorry for the short-notice Roger. It crept up on me a bit! Sorry to hear the fringe skiffle wasn't there in the summer. I'll mention it to Mike & see if they will reinstate the skiffle arm in future events. Was that this summer just gone, or the one before? This summer the festival was a MUCH smaller affair for various reasons. Kris |
Subject: RE: Caversham Winter Warmer 17-22 Nov 2004 From: Fee Date: 17 Nov 04 - 08:40 AM We mentioned this on Cool as Folk last night, and I've linked you from our website...I hope I can make it to some of the stuff (but I really DO have to start on my essay). Also need to find time to come to one of the Folk Club nights on a Sunday...why is there not enough time for all these things?! ;o) |
Subject: RE: Caversham Winter Warmer 17-22 Nov 2004 From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 17 Nov 04 - 08:42 AM Yeah, Kris, the Sunday session in 2004 didn't run. Dave Illingworth's flyer I got at the February Cabbage Patch gig had the usual Summer date down so I didn't check before going. Fortunately we were en route to the Basildon Park jazz gig so didn't have a wasted journey, just started earlier expecting to catch the end of the skiffle session first. RtS (Of course they might have been trying to divert me away!) |
Subject: RE: Caversham Winter Warmer 17-22 Nov 2004 From: GUEST,KB Date: 17 Nov 04 - 09:22 AM Fee: I know what you mean about time!! I haven't been folking for ages. Cheers for the mention on Cool as Folk. Hang the essay I say! Come out & do some music thing. Roger: Hmmm - d'ya reckon that after you had gone they all reached under their seats & pulled out washboards & washtub-basses? Actually - very little happened in 2004. There is a "water festival" that usually coincides but is t'other end of town. This year the usual water festival venue was unavailable, so they moved it down to Cav Prom. The idea was to combine the two events, but so far as I could work out it really came down to CCFF supplying artists for the Water Festival's music stage + a few peripheral bits & pieces. It wasn't the same thing at all. It was the best that could be made of the situation at the time & made a pretty good whack for the charities, maybe it'll be back on a more traditional course next year. Kris |

Come out & do some music thing.< Ah...I would love to but I also don't want to fail my degree (I've been doing it for bloody ages now!). Might pop over on Sunday if I feel like I'm going mad, apparantly there's also something happening folkwise at the Rising Sun (Reading) on Saturday night... |
