As America moves inexorably towards the true trappings of empire, the latest piece of hilarity is George W. going to the Reagan Library (an oxymoron of sorts in itself) to celebrate Air Force One as a symbol of "democracy and freedom"!!! Somewhat like Catherine the Great's fabled gold encrusted carriage, Air Force One carries freedom and democracy through the skies of the world, dispensing beneficence and love wherever it goes......

yours,

Peter T.

I don't see much democratic about it :). Can I get on it? A taxpayer in good standing (well, except for certain documented liberal leanings)? I think not.

The fuel consumption of Air Force One runs to $6000.00+ per hour. Flying to and from all those photo-ops can get a little pricy, but then. . . .

By the way, when George leaves Washington, D.C. for Crawford, Texas for a vacation (how many times is that now?), does he go in Air Force One, or does he fly on his own dime?

If you have to ask, I'm afraid you're just a bit naive!

Whatever plane the President of the USA flies on is designated to be Airforce 1.

American taxpayers should buy him a Cessna and let him fly all over the place. Save y'all a bundle, IMO.

Yeah, I can just see him going through an airport security check. In fact, I would love to see him going through an airport security check!

Actually, though, when he was in the Texas Air National Guard (we'll just forget about the Alabama Air National Guard--I mean, after all, he did), the report is that he turned out to be a pretty darn good pilot and actually enjoyed flying. A Cessna might be a bit less exciting for him than a delta-wing jet fighter, but I think that would be a neat idea! Save a wad of money.

If he went through an airport security check, it would probably bounce.

And little do most frol know but there are two Air Force One's, with two diffenet staffs... Both are hangered at Andrew's Air Force Base and both are kept ready 24/7 with pilots and staff available for either or both planes... This cost even more of my hard earned tax bucks, even when one or the other isn't in the air... Right now, as I write this, Air Force One's are costing a lotta money just sittin' at Andrews...

I know this because I know one of the crew memebers... This isn't classified stuff here...

Nevermind, I'd do it fir free...
