Very fine work. I like the flowers on the outcrop, too.

Inspired by the work, I decided to find out just what a razorback is. It is a feral European swine.

Wikepedia says "They usually are not as large as their domesticated counterparts since they must forage for food however they can grow as long as 8 to 9 feet and weigh in at almost half a ton."

Can that be true?

I would be surprised if many of them got to be that big. They're bigger than the javelinas we have in SW Texas, but I can't imagine more than a very few get to half a ton. Maybe if they live in an area with a lot of garbage to scavenge?

Just about nothing you find in Wickepedia is "true"- its simply a collation & compilation of opinions that people send in with no fact checking/substantiation whatsoever.

You want facts, try the Britannica.

I've seen some pretty damned big wild hogs here--I saw one hit by a car in one of the rural areas west of me--but I don't think they're the same thing. Still, they're feral hogs and I'll vouch that they do a Hell of a lot of damage to a car.

If they're feral, I would imagine that at least some of them have some domestic hog in them, too, just as mustangs mostly aren't pure Spanish any more, so I suppose their could be both a lot of variation in size and a sort of loose description of what exactly counts as a razorback.

Like I said, I doubt that many, if any, get that big.

I agree. It was probably an error generated when somebody tried to convert the statistics from metric to Christian.

I've never heard the term "Christian" applied to a system of measurement, before; I learned that it was called "Imperial." ... differing idioms, I suppose.

Oh, and just the other day, I posted this entry in my own journal about The Peacable Kingdom.
