Subject: New member from Hull From: bill\sables Date: 09 Jul 01 - 07:32 PM It seems Hull ,UK is becoming the mudcat mecca, Another new member from Hull has just joined. Her name is Nik Nak and she is a fine fiddler. She has also started attending the Jug sessions. Would you give her a warm welcome. Cheers Bill |
Subject: RE: BS: New member from Hull From: bobby's girl Date: 09 Jul 01 - 07:44 PM Welcome Nik Nak! Although I live in Dorset now I could be counted as yet another from the Hull multitude, as I was born and brought up there until I left in 1975 - it's changed a bit since then though! |
Subject: RE: BS: New member from Hull From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Jul 01 - 07:49 PM Welcome Nik Nak. BTW, I'm working hard to try to persuade my mum to transport me (not really that bad - she loves the music) to a session in the Jug - a bit further than our usual range but I still think quite "do-able" as a one off. May get to meet you all. Jon |

Subject: RE: BS: New member from Hull From: jeffp Date: 10 Jul 01 - 01:17 PM Welcome Nik Nak. It appears that Hull is challenging Silver Spring as the greatest concentration of Mudcatters. jeffp |
Subject: RE: BS: New member from Hull From: JeZeBeL Date: 10 Jul 01 - 01:18 PM Hey Nikki!! Emma here, sorry JeZeBeL. I knew when I saw this thread it'd be about you...and that you'd probably be called Nik Nak...how scary is that!! |
Subject: RE: BS: New member from Hull From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 10 Jul 01 - 01:38 PM Ickle Dorrit-Do you and Les need any help with World domination? Im not very good at spelling, so you can do any writing, but you can borrow my toolkit. Ps. Im busy on Thursdays. :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: New member from Hull From: Les from Hull Date: 10 Jul 01 - 01:40 PM Jeffp - I imagine that Silver Spring is smaller than Hull, so there's probably no challenge on the concentration. Perhaps I should put it to our City Fathers that we should be sister cities - if you don't mind having Rotterdam, Freetown (Sierra Leone), Szczecin, Niigata, Reykavik and Raleigh (USA). Perhaps, there's a thread in the making - which 'catters live in other 'catters sister cities (or twin towns)? Actually a lot of the people posting here have connections with Hull but have sensibly moved away, some are 'foreigners' who have moved here only recently (like in the last 30 years) and some only come here temporarily to use our fine educational establishments. It takes a lot to be a proper 'Hull Kid'. Les |

Having just commented on how wonderful it would be to have more local Folk Venues. Hull was a thriving Place for Folk audiences .I remember The Fox and Cony...The Blue Bell ...birth of the Watersons .. it was a sad day when Folk Union One closed with only a handful of people. It now sound as tho the net the net is boosting the cause..so lets get together...whenever...wherever :-))) If you want a private party...get the beers in and stay home! |

Subject: RE: BS: New member from Hull From: Skipjack K8 Date: 03 Aug 01 - 04:55 AM Yellowbellies, in the vernacular. John, you are most welcome, however full you stuff the car. Totally leaving aside all the session psycho-analysis of late, it is only the presence of visitors that gets us off our arse to play properly, so we enjoy new blood. Despite my best efforts, there are only a couple of Cats there, as most of the surrounding area are still struggling with the concept of the bicycle, and think Bill Gates is off Emmerdale. Bring that whistle, though, and give us a blast. And let me know which Tuesday, so I can go on a three line whip to make sure we field a reasonable side. Skipjack |

Subject: RE: BS: New member from Hull From: Skipjack K8 Date: 03 Aug 01 - 03:57 PM Captain, the coordinates for Ickle Dorrit are showing two miles to the north of her apparent genetic profile. It appears these primitive life forms have amphibious capabilities. Either that, Spock, or............. no, it's too fantastic to concieve............... the natives have constructed a bridgehead ........... to keep themselves ....apart! They communicate by ..... vibrating crude musical instruments, interspersed by barking noises ..... advertising their availability to mate. This is ..... fascinating. See how small groups of these .......musical communicators move in each others communities..... armed only with blunt instruments, whilst the braves stay steadfastly apart, fearing their gene pool will be invaded by alien intelligence........... We are witnessing the beginnings of civilisation. What do you think, Bones? It's life, Jim, but not as we know it!

Leastways, that's my excuse .Darwin? what a pillock! and less of the blunt instruments- I have sharpened my Bodhran into a fine point and can be seen using it to launch attacks on unsuspecting autoharpists.
