Happily, my MP is the wonderful honest Robert Marshall-Andrews QC MP - now being accepted by the media and who knows who else as the most articulate and learned face of Old Labour. He is one of the top internal Labour rebels.

He tried to help us on the PEL nonsense of the Licensing Act.

If, maybe, and perhaps, I could interest him in a fight on the Licensing Act as an act of Machiavellianism, has anyone else a constituency MP who has a place in the Labour internal politics who might join the ranks?

If this flies, credit where due, it is largely not my idea an I'll come clean maybe in due course.

I may also be trying to re-activate the Performer-Lawyer Group for the purpose.

More, maybe, in due course.

Sham, I suggest you PM or email me rather than posting just in case.

No my MP is a ruddy Lib Dem. He did sign the early day motion though so maybe he'd back it from the back benches given a nudge

No - mine's loyalty to the party-line has just been rewarded with a Junior Ministership.

Mine is Peter Hain - no chance there. He just sent all of my mail on to Kim Howells, who sent back the standard letter on how good it would be for live music.

Radio 2 website of the day yesterday was something like

Ivotedforyoubecause

which was intended to provide batched feedback to your local MP. It might be a place to direct PEL protests.

Maybe there should also be a site

Ididntvoteforyoubecause ! I certainly wouldn't vote for him, for PELS, IR35 and other reasons.

Mine's Lab. Nick Ainger who never votes against his bosses and who has been rewarded with a post in the Wales Office. He used to be a good guy and very pro-community arts. How the mighty have fallen. The others who I know personally are not Labour. However, if ever there was a Labour rebel, it's Paul Flynn, Newport West. He might be worth a 'go'. Our other hope, in Wales, is in getting powers devolved to the Assembly. I'd find it hard to believe that Welsh AMs would dare to have tried restricting communal music-making like that. They'd have been ridden out of town on a rail. (Actually, an old Welsh custom. Maybe that's where the cowboys got it.) I know that people in the Culture Ministry at the Assembly were mightily displeased at the lack of consultation on this one, as Culture IS a devolved issue, as are certain aspects of Local Government ...

Mine, as you know, is the ex morris man who, although he signed the EDM, proceeded to pass my complaints on to Dim Bowels and Ronnie Fudgit, resulting in the aforementioed standard crapsheet.
So not much chance there.

Don T.

Kevin Brennan (Lab), Cardiff West I think, voted against it originally, but he's now a whip so might not be of help. He's a musician too (does a good rendition of My Old Friend The Blues!).

Well, lets see what happens with Marshall-Andrews when I finalise the letter to him and send it. Maybe we can at least direct him to one friendly face!

Your morris dancer, Don, of course can dance his morris (or similar) and even have music so long as the music stops when he does. As you know. So he does not really have a cause that needs supporting. He got what he wanted.

The only MPs I know are all tories, so no help. They were fighting it, and ignored.

I wrote to my MP (Clive "Effing" Efford - Labour - Eltham - returned on reduced maj) on several occasions and he never bothered to send me a reply - he voted for the bill. Strangely enough, he (personally) phoned me before the election asking me if he could rely on my vote . . . . !

I'd love to have listened to your reply to that Dave. I'll bet it raised blisters.
