Hi I'm In Melbourne now to see my new wee grandaughter, Rossa Eilidh.
I'm proud that she will grow up as an Aussie girl but her Dad and her grandpa will be teaching her a few Scots and Gaelic songs. She's only 3 months old now so we will have to wait a wee while yet.
In the meantime I'm enjoying every minute with this georgeous young child in this amazing city.
What a change since I was last here all of 33 years ago.

Congratulations Strupag. Believe me, grandchildren are a real treat. I got a card from my five year old grandson in the UK yesterday, written by him in that wonderful big writing that they do. A real keepsake for a doting nanny!

Enjoy every moment with your granddaughter - they grow up so fast.

Thanks everybody.
We're now down in Glenorchie, near Hobart with all the family (including Rossa) - a wee holiday within a holiday. It's absolutely beautiful here and it reminds me a bit of Ullapool without rain.
Rossa had her first flight in an areoplane and almost enjoyed it.
We are going up to the west coast of Tasmania to Strathan and taking a boat trip the river.
It's a great time because I'm enjoying the holiday of a lifetime emotionally and geographically.
I'll be back up in Melbourne next week Jiok and I'll check these places out.

Congratulations and what a beautiful name she's got! Our Morgan has grown up in our house and is now over 2yrs old. They DO grow up fast and with what Joy.

We are all back from Tasmania to Melbourne and what a week we've had.
This was one of the most amazing places that I've visited.
On the west coast we went on a boat trip from Strathan up the river to the former penal colony, Sarah Island, and then further up the river where we ventured into almost virgin rain forest.
God these poor convicts had a tough time!
I talked to boat builders and wondered at the qualities of Huon Pine wood. I saw the remains of a Huon Pine tree which was 2,300 years old.
I've also read and learned about the Tassie Tigers who were made extinct by my fellow europeans.
Today, in a nature park, I stroked a Koala and fed a Wallaby and even patted a Wombat.
When we all arrived back in Melbourne airport I was pinching myself asking if it all really happened. I recommend Tasmania to anyone who has the slightest chance of going there.
And, oh yes, baby Rossa was in excellent form most of the time.

Well today I tried to PM all those who sent me kind greetings and learned that(WITHOUT COOKIE'S) it is just not possible.

Today we went down to Fitzroy Square and saw a free concert by an Aboriginal band. I'm am ashamed to admit that I didn't catch their name.
The band were great but the sound man could have done a lot better.

I've also got a list of aboriginal artists that I'm goimg to check out.

And ,Jiok, we tried a bite at the Chocolate Buddha and it was great.

Also, On my last posting, I should have pointed out that the park where I met Mssrs. and Mssm. Kangaroo, Wallaby, Possum etc. was a sanctuary where injured creatures (road accident and human abuse etc.) were taken in and cared for. Most were beyond a situation where they could not be returned into the wild.
The warden gave out an international plea, however, and I'm glad to pass it on.
If you ever see a road kill, please push it with feet, sticks or whatever,off the road.
This struck home to me, as anytime that a creature is hit on the roads in the Scottish Highlands, it has usually been feeding off some other roadkill.
I'm sure that this is an international thing that we can all do a wee bit to help.

Do it for Rossa!

That could be Healsville which is great place, not far from there in the Dandenongs is the William Ricketts Sanctuary another wonderful place to visit.
It's nice to hear about all these places again and takes me back to the wonderful holiday I had in OZ a year or 3 ago.
