Subject: RE: BS: World Cup From: cujimmy Date: 17 Jul 26 - 04:38 AM I need to add that the manager of Athletico when they tried to kick England off the park in 1966, was the same manager who did actually manage that in 1974 against Celtic Juan Carlos Lorenzo. |

Subject: RE: BS: World Cup From: Backwoodsman Date: 18 Jul 26 - 03:09 AM France will almost certainly take the ‘Bronze Final’ as FIFA are calling it. I think there has been some kind of bust-up in the England camp, and I fear the heart has gone out of the England team. I hope I’m wrong, but… And I hope, with every fibre of my being, that Spain beat the dirty Argies by playing the great football they are noted for to take the World Cup. However, judging by the refereeing of the Argentina/England game, and the blatant fouls and violent incidents that wer ignored by the refereeing team, I’m not convinced that the clearly-corrupt top-brass in FIFA are prepared allow it to come to pass. |

Subject: RE: BS: World Cup From: r.padgett Date: 18 Jul 26 - 12:42 PM Freedom of speech ~ well yes and no ~ Argentine footballers understandable but not in the spirit and may incur a FIFA fine little t ~ typical incitement and a way to further his (US) claim to other countries sovereignty like Greenland We would respond with typical Churchillian gesture and 2 words, of course Ray |

Subject: RE: BS: World Cup From: Stilly River Sage Date: 19 Jul 26 - 05:49 PM I generally don't pay attention to organized sports, but I've heard lots of philosophizing about sports with the World Cup under way. American football is a source of great injury to the players and can have lifetime consequences. Baseball doesn't have the time limitations of other games so can stretch out into some spectacular outcomes. I turned on the final game of the World Cup this afternoon and find it easier to follow. Those guys must be exhausted by the end of play. |

Subject: RE: BS: World Cup From: Backwoodsman Date: 20 Jul 26 - 02:42 AM Appalling violent behaviour by the Argies, both during, and after, the match. I remember, after the ‘Hand of God’ game, Maradona saying something along the lines of “Argentina play to win at all costs, no matter what it takes” - it still seems to be that way. They should hang their heads in shame. Fortunately for football, they were beaten this time by a vastly superior Spanish side who were a credit to the game. Such a pity that it wasn’t England they were playing. |

Subject: RE: BS: World Cup From: Tattie Bogle Date: 20 Jul 26 - 04:18 AM We were out all day having a wonderful trip on the legendary paddle steamer, Waverley, and just got home towards the conclusion of the extra time. A better way to spend a lovely sunny day? I agree that the Argies’ behaviour after the final whistle was diabolical, and hopefully they’ll get a big fine for it. |
