Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 27 Mar 26 - 01:46 PM IN some places south of here, spring is underway and people need cooling in the air. Here in southwestern New England, it's mud season, which is a messy overlapping of winter and spring. THe mud could get more snow on top if temperatures cool, which they are supposed to do overnight and tomorrow. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 29 Mar 26 - 08:02 PM And now for some days of spring rain; although, it can certainly snow in April, and probably will, with our luck. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 31 Mar 26 - 03:21 AM It's getting a bit cooler here - 2 nights ago I pulled out my cheap thin wool shawl (used as first cool-weather blanket) & also my thicker (good quality) wool shawl & slept under both of them, tho I only used the thin one last night! I also bought a thin down jacket as I lost mine late last year, but I haven't needed it yet. As always, over summer I've been wearing a good quality linen shirt as a sun screen! I'm a very unusual Aussie, I've never been able to cope with sun. I only found out 2 or 3 years that the nasty headaches I always got from sun, glare & humidity were migraines. I never saw lights with them, tho once or twice a year I saw lights briefly without a headache, so my skin is much younger than my 73 years. sandra |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 05 Apr 26 - 02:44 PM Easter-like weather indeed, with mist and drizzle nourishing the green growing things. Snowdrops have been sighted. However we will have a brief cold snap this coming week. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 09 Apr 26 - 07:00 PM It's the kind of weather that whip-saws back and forth between winter and spring. We had a snowstorm earlier this week. Today the sun was shining, and it was warm so long as the wind wasn't blowing. The wind cut straight through you, it was not a spring breeze. It's supposed to stay on the fence, weather-wise, for another week or so. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 16 Apr 26 - 04:36 PM We're having thunder and lightning along with the rain and gusty winds in this area; this is probably down to the heat, which is more like June than April. But it is supposed to cool down this coming weekend. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Donuel Date: 02 May 26 - 06:56 PM For 1,500 miles the Pacific Ocean is 8 degrees hotter than usual. Cold currents are trapped under the heat is killing sea birds and other wildlife. This heat will make horrendous storms. Expect el ninyo on steroids. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 05 May 26 - 04:41 PM Uncommonly warm weather for early May, it is nearly 80 degrees F. Behind it, tomorrow, come the showers, which will cool things off. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: MaJoC the Filk Date: 06 May 26 - 07:36 AM Last week's weather was warm enough to dry the washing in double-quick time; on Saturday, the rain started, just in time for the Mayday Bank Holiday on Monday. The denatured weather deity that the English put up with has clearly inherited a calendar from Sod. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 12 Jun 26 - 07:59 PM After days of sweltering heat and humidity, the forecast promises a cooldown next week. We can use it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Jun 26 - 06:52 PM Heat index through the roof here with an alert all day to stay in if possible. This morning I did about 20 minutes of mowing and when I stopped it was like I was in a steam sauna I was sweating so much. There is a 100% chance of rain late tonight but at the moment the weather radar doesn't show anything, so it may be one of those storms that piles up clouds in a hurry and dumps heavy bands of rain. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 20 Jun 26 - 08:38 PM We could use a little more rain, we have moderate drought status. Next week is supposed to stay on the cool side, with rising temperatures the week after next. I'll enjoy the "coolth" while it lasts. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 20 Jun 26 - 08:47 PM Sounds nice, keb! Enjoy next week. We've had a lot of rain this spring here in North Texas, making me think we'll be punished for that during the rest of the summer with high heat and dry days. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 22 Jun 26 - 02:44 PM A steady soaking rain today, should help with the drought status. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 22 Jun 26 - 02:54 PM Weather forecasts are almost worthless these days. They used to be able to almost pinpoint rain, now they barely identify if it is in the region, let alone when it might be in our area. This is entirely due to the Trump slashing of the budget and firing staff. (I dread this fire season—they've slashed a lot of the researchers and regular work to predict smoke and risk information.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 25 Jun 26 - 08:35 PM We're supposed to get nearly an inch of rain overnight. But it won't cool things down; on the contrary, they will get warmer, especially at night. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 30 Jun 26 - 01:54 PM I take it that means 95F, not 195F? We have a heat watch up for much of this week. And today thunderstorms are expected, so I have my umbrella. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Jul 26 - 02:28 PM A large and prolonged heat wave is settling over about 2/3 of the US population in the Midwest and east coast states. Heat Wave Spreads East on Wednesday, Putting Millions More at Risk More than 160 million people are under extreme heat warnings or heat advisories ahead of the Fourth of July weekend. July 1, 2026Updated 12:55 p.m. ET The rest is at the link. Ohio, Michigan, and parts of adjacent states are taking the brunt of the heat the next couple of days. Stay safe out there, everyone! You're getting typical Texas summer weather - it's not something we like, but we're accustomed to it and are careful in the heat. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: MaJoC the Filk Date: 01 Jul 26 - 03:43 PM During the heatwave in the UK just gone (we're due an action replay next weekend: grrr), one of the weathermen explained why air being forced down gets hot. It's the first time I've heard the word "adiabatic" on domestic TV news. I accuse Mr Trump, in the press conference, with an oil drill. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 03 Jul 26 - 07:58 PM Heat advisory today until sunset. The temperatures are to drop gradually, and on Monday the rain will usher in cooler weather, we are told. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: gillymor Date: 11 Jul 26 - 11:44 AM A rogue storm came through SWFL yesterday afternoon with 60 mph winds and sheets of rain coming down nearly horizontal. I was out on the road and visibility was so bad I had to pull over and did so just in time for large palm frond to land on my truck. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 11 Jul 26 - 01:36 PM gillymor, any damage? Some of those palms can get quite large. There is rain in the forecast a couple of days out but it always keeps scooting out of reach as the time approaches. We're scorched right now. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: gillymor Date: 11 Jul 26 - 01:49 PM There was a shallow indentation on the roof of the cab but I can probably bump it out, fortunately the paint wasn't scratched. When I was able to go again I had to zig zag through some fronds that were the size of large gators. |
