Subject: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: jacqui.c Date: 16 Apr 08 - 02:43 PM I received a letter today from the Department of Homeland Security, confirming that I am now a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States. One big sigh of relief that that is all sorted. The next thing is citizenship, but it seems I'll have to wait until 2010 for that. Many thanks to all those who helped me put the info together to persuade the DHS that our marriage was the genuine article. |

Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: Peace Date: 16 Apr 08 - 03:46 PM Being, Maeve, BEING. It's not that easy being green; Having to spend each day the color of the leaves. When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold... or something much more colorful like that. It's not easy being green. It seems you blend in with so many other ord'nary things. And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water or stars in the sky. But green's the color of Spring. And green can be cool and friendly-like. And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree. When green is all there is to be It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why? Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful! And I think it's what I want to be. |

It is a really scary feeling to be on the wrong side of the CIS even if it is through no fault of your own. Again congratulations! I know it is a wonderful feeling. |

Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: jacqui.c Date: 16 Apr 08 - 04:33 PM We mailed in the 'evidence'. I think I ended up sending in about 60 photos, each with its own caption - it must have been like the times that you HAVE to look at someone else's holiday pics for whoever had to go through them. I actually put everything together in a folder, lots of paperwork to show that we own cars and a house together, and lots of explanations why we don't have joint accounts, joint utility bills etc. It obviously did the trick as we didn't even have to go for interview. |
Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: Rapparee Date: 16 Apr 08 - 05:14 PM Well, having looked at other people's wedding pictures I can understand why the authorities might have gotten a glazed look in their eyes and said, "Aw, just give her the damned thing!" |

Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: Morticia Date: 16 Apr 08 - 05:46 PM Lawful Permanent Resident ......dear lord, does that mean you have to be good now? How likely is that to last? It's not as though being lawful comes easily to you. Congrats to America......you have gained a good 'un. |
Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: Becca72 Date: 16 Apr 08 - 06:03 PM Morticia...I believe they can still send her back to you if she commits a felony...so she only has to be 'reasonably' good. :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: jacqui.c Date: 16 Apr 08 - 06:26 PM Kitty - I wondered that myself, but it seems that they have to question everyone the same way. Becca - another good reason for citizenship! Then they can only put me in jail. |

Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: RangerSteve Date: 16 Apr 08 - 07:36 PM I gave a lot of thought about this, and typed up a real clever contribution to this thread, but this new keyboard I have is smaller than the old one, and for some reason, I keep hitting the "control" key by accident and it erases whatever I wrote. And I'm to lazy to retype what I had, so I'll just say congratulations and leave it at that. |
Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: Amos Date: 16 Apr 08 - 10:38 PM Does keeping a senior citizen in the cellar constitute a felony? A |
Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: TRUBRIT Date: 17 Apr 08 - 01:13 AM Possibly keeping anyone in the cellar, senior or otherwise, constitutes a felony? Great job Jacqui-- I have had my green card for more years than I care to remember (well over 30) but I still won't take citizenship. I remember being interviewed to come in -- two of the TRUE questions were: Is your intent in coming to the US to engage in prostitution - answer yes or no Is your intent in coming to the US to engage in illegal drug trafficking - answer yes or no? Well, no to both -- I did intend to do some drug trafficking but planned to keep it strictly legal. I ASK you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: Barry Finn Date: 17 Apr 08 - 02:10 AM Congrats "Jackie" (hehehe, I know you won't change it now but maybe I'll just call you "Miss Slick" from now on). You mean you weren't one of US all this time, OH my! You talk just as funny as them thar other folks from Maine talk, I never knew you wasn't one of them. Gosh, I think you pulled a fast one on me. Deb, if they offered the same health care plan here as you have as a Brit, would you then seek citizenship? Cause I'm thinking of going over there & with my funny accent trying to pass myself off as a Yorhshireman, I can't afford to be a US citizen any longer, it's killing me. Kendall, & I thought you were just your average bear, you're looking more like the sly fox licking his lips & chopping his chops, I bet you're sitting in the cellar with "Jackie" with a shit eating grin on your face & a gleaming eye tooth. BTW, that guy from the NSA (No Shit Asshole) or whatever he was, that was rquesting all that info on you guys. Well, he was squealing Oink, Oink & crying some thing about "Uncle" when I left him. No, don't thank me, what are friends for? Contgrats to you both Barry |

Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: Naemanson Date: 17 Apr 08 - 05:00 AM You're doing better than poor Wakana. She's been waiting for it since we applied for the damn thing last May! We finally got our congressional delegate to ask about it and they told her they'd kept getting it back. The idiots were mailing it to our physical address, not our post office box. They told her they'd mail it to our mailing address and she told us they would do that. Yesterday we got an envelope from them. Yippee! I thought. When we opened it we found a request for more evidence of our marriage! I was so pissed I could hardly talk. In 37 days we can celebrate the first anniversary of our request. |
Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Apr 08 - 07:21 AM Congratulations! All those years of picking lettuce and living in the camps followed by years of sweat shop labor in NYC have finally paid off. No more agents in the doorway hiding by the river...........................uh, wait.....................................sorry , forgot you're a Brit married to Kendall and living in Maine. My mistake.....well actually yours as now your worst years are now in front of you.................. Try to be of good cheer anyway. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: I got my permanent green card, at last! From: jacqui.c Date: 17 Apr 08 - 09:03 AM Liz - the card is actually pink, not green. Not sure why, maybe the colour was picked by a 'sensitive' designer. :0) Brett - I'm glad that I applied from inside the USA. I think if I had tried to get this while in the UK I might still be waiting too! By the way, I think I may have some photos of you and Wakana together if you want to use them with your application - I think that may have helped with ours - they just get too fed up looking at the pictures and grant the application! |
