I received a letter today from the Department of Homeland Security, confirming that I am now a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States. One big sigh of relief that that is all sorted.

The next thing is citizenship, but it seems I'll have to wait until 2010 for that.

Many thanks to all those who helped me put the info together to persuade the DHS that our marriage was the genuine article.

I hear ya man! My FBI check took a very very long time. If Carol's dad had not been on the campaign of his congress man we still might be waiting.

It is a really scary feeling to be on the wrong side of the CIS even if it is through no fault of your own.

We mailed in the 'evidence'. I think I ended up sending in about 60 photos, each with its own caption - it must have been like the times that you HAVE to look at someone else's holiday pics for whoever had to go through them.

I actually put everything together in a folder, lots of paperwork to show that we own cars and a house together, and lots of explanations why we don't have joint accounts, joint utility bills etc. It obviously did the trick as we didn't even have to go for interview.

Great job Jacqui-- I have had my green card for more years than I care to remember (well over 30) but I still won't take citizenship.

I remember being interviewed to come in -- two of the TRUE questions were:

Is your intent in coming to the US to engage in prostitution - answer yes or no
Is your intent in coming to the US to engage in illegal drug trafficking - answer yes or no? Well, no to both -- I did intend to do some drug trafficking but planned to keep it strictly legal. I ASK you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're doing better than poor Wakana. She's been waiting for it since we applied for the damn thing last May! We finally got our congressional delegate to ask about it and they told her they'd kept getting it back. The idiots were mailing it to our physical address, not our post office box. They told her they'd mail it to our mailing address and she told us they would do that.

Yesterday we got an envelope from them. Yippee! I thought. When we opened it we found a request for more evidence of our marriage! I was so pissed I could hardly talk.

In 37 days we can celebrate the first anniversary of our request.

Liz - the card is actually pink, not green. Not sure why, maybe the colour was picked by a 'sensitive' designer. :0)

Brett - I'm glad that I applied from inside the USA. I think if I had tried to get this while in the UK I might still be waiting too! By the way, I think I may have some photos of you and Wakana together if you want to use them with your application - I think that may have helped with ours - they just get too fed up looking at the pictures and grant the application!
