producing the same lumins as it does now, how would that affect us?
We wouldn't have the effects of solar fluctuations and solar storms. Apart from that, would the difference be incidental or profound? Would earth be a frozen lump, because the sun produced little or no heat, or would we be warmed by the absorption of light energy just as we are now? Could an LED produce the full spectrum of energy that sustains life, causes sunburn, etc.?

Well for starters it would be rich in rare earth (Y3 Al5 O12:Ce) elements that fluoresce, and be a bit toxic with all that Gallium Nitride and who knows what else dopant they use in the chip.
Then there is the beam width to consider, we would have day/night for 2 months of the year and darkness on the other side of the Sun, unless LED is plural then I think Mrs God would ensure the overlap of the beam widths kept the sunshine sufficiently constant.
And what is generating all that voltage? Think of the power requirements.

And we would have developed an indifference, by now, to the higher Blue light content that currently keeps us alert & more awake at night - one to ponder if you Kindle in bed, &/or replace your bedside lamp bulb for an LED version. If you suffer insomnia - do the research and avoid eco bulbs, fluorescent strip lighting and readers/phones/Flat Screens late at night.

But otherwise worth a try once we have built the crystal growing furnace big enough for the chip(s)!

Short answer... if it were different, everything else would be different, and there would BE no 'we' to worry about it.

True enough, Bill. And even if it didn't look different because it still generated exactly the same visible spectrum, the absence of all that energy we don't perceive as light would have major effects ... And we wouldn't be here.

Forget the sun being an LED. Comets are God's wine cellar.

"We found that comet Lovejoy was releasing as much alcohol as in at least 500 bottles of wine every second during its peak activity," said Nicolas Biver of the Paris Observatory, France

...it would come with a guarantee of at least 10000 hours, which wouldn't get us even to the EU referendum, let alone Jeremy becoming PM.

10,000 hours   = 416.67 days.
One year (2016)= 365    days
Remainder      = 51    days.
That would get us to 15 Dec 2016
In June this year David Cameron said that we'd have a referendum "within a year". so I think 10,000 hours may be more than enough.
Any way, it is not possible to state that it will not be enough, with any certainty.

As to Jeremy Corbyn becoming PM, we now have 5 year parliaments, and even if that wasn't the case, I don't believe that the loss of the sun as a source of heat would be great enough to cause Hell to freeze over!
