Subject: RE: BS: Finally From: DonMeixner Date: 25 Apr 03 - 05:09 PM Oh come now, LH. I'm sure if there is enough profit in it George would say it's OK. Providing he can get it past the Attorney General. George is, after all, just a frat boy who did better than his father planned. |

Subject: RE: BS: Finally From: SeanM Date: 25 Apr 03 - 05:53 PM That's... that's... That is creepy. M |
Subject: RE: BS: Finally From: DonMeixner Date: 25 Apr 03 - 07:21 PM That was a very funny article. I really enjoyed it. But tell me this. You guys don't really believe Bush actually said that stuff that way do you? He is an idiot but he isn't that big of an idiot. Don |

Subject: RE: BS: Finally From: SeanM Date: 25 Apr 03 - 07:49 PM For the uninitiated, the Onion is a satirical journal - the "stories" are parodies, satires, or whole cloth works of fiction. At the time, the article would have been written to poke the neuroses of the paranoid Left - who feared that this would all come to pass. The creepy part is how little of the article couldn't pass for a slightly biased yet completely truthful summation of the presidency. I was so stunned by the match that I took a tour through the page source code - figuring somewhere I'd see "edit" remarks or the like where someone went in and changed the info to fit the current events (a la MiniTruth). It's not there - the only change I could trace was an update to the copyright info, which could easily be a batch find and replace on their archives. Other articles (with much less "prescient" content, and no reason to have been altered between publish and now) show the same marks and classification. It's a very, very, very creepy coincidince. And a very, very, very scary that the administration lived down to the paranoid parody of an over the top comedy rag. M |
Subject: RE: BS: Finally From: michaelr Date: 25 Apr 03 - 08:17 PM Comedy (and satire) are not mainly about being funny. They're about a specific way to tell truth, mainly by exaggeration. If that gets a laugh, you've gotten your truth through. The headline "FUCKING WAR!" on the day of the invasion was a great example of that. Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: BS: Finally From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Apr 03 - 08:26 PM They seem to have a pretty accurate crystal ball in that magazine's office. I don't suppose they have a racing section do they? |
Subject: RE: BS: Finally From: CarolC Date: 25 Apr 03 - 08:36 PM It wasn't funny then, either. But now it's pretty much all true. |
Subject: RE: BS: Finally From: michaelr Date: 25 Apr 03 - 10:37 PM a racing section... LOL, Kevin! |
Subject: RE: BS: Finally From: michaelr Date: 25 Apr 03 - 10:49 PM See this for another example of satire bringing home truth. Cheers, Michael |
