WGBH in Boston is showing a Great Performances program called Three Pickers - Legends of American Music. Also, Detroit's WTVS is showing the same program on July 28th. Both channels will repeat the show.

Here is the PBS synopsis of the program:

The Three Pickers: Legends of American Music

Banjoist Earl Scruggs, guitarist Doc Watson and mandolin player Ricky Skaggs join to perform bluegrass classics including Blue Moon of Kentucky.

Should be a memorable program.

WTVS also has a program called Tony Brown's Journal on July the 28th at 3:30AM which is called the Roots of Music. The PBS synopsis of that says:
The oral tradition of the slavers' African heritage

Thanks for the heads-up, George. My local PBS station makes it too hard to search for programming schedules without studying each individual program. They used to publish a weekly schedule, but I can't find it now.

Mary, I've got a hint for you:

http://www.pbs.org/cgi-registry/whatson/template.cgir?s=WGBH&t=1&c=m&d=2003-7

Take the above, put your stations call letters in place of WGBH, and then the year and month as shown at the end. That'll get you an online list for the month for your station.

I had noticed the same problem previously when it came to online program listings. I found out about this database by accident last month, and am using it exclusively now.

I still can't get it to work for WKET...it says no data listed, but I'll keep looking around.

I also found that my favorite channel, H&G (Home & Garden) changes their schedule every quarter (3 months). I started getting up at 5:30 in the morning to see a fabulous garden show (Gardener's Journal, tours of everyday gardens in Canada) and they took it off! They won't print their forecasted scheduling, so I just have to check back every 3 months.

Maybe it only works for some of the bigger PBS stations!

Here's another Bluegrass event. I suppose I should have put it in one of the Oh Brother Where Art Thou threads, since they are doing some of the music from that movie:

July 29th 5AM Atlantic - Sound Stage: Alison Krauss & Union Station
Sound Stage

I can use the WGBH full text listing to get a pretty good idea of what upcoming programs are about, at least for one month at a time. Then I can search for that program on my channel. At least I can get a one month heads-up. Looks like the folks at PBS would be more aware of this problem. I can only see an individual day's programming on the 'net and a week's programming for my local station ++++++++++++++++++++++++in the local paper. I like a little more lead time than that. (All the +'s are from the cat.)

Hey, Mary, if you check that site, you can ask it for a listing for your Zip Code or by State.
