I am in need a tickler file - a reminder program for marketing deadlines, to-do tasks, etc. I've had a look round google and found a few things which might work, but they all want money. I was going to use Yahoo calendar, but it just sends reminders to email. I want something which will pop up, if possible, on the appropriate day on my computer desktop.

So, anyone know of something..shareware? Thanks!!

kat

kat: you don't say what system you're running, but Microsoft Outlook which you may already have allows you to set calendar reminders. I'm not even sure you have to have Outlook open in order for a reminder to be posted to your desktop at an advance notice of your choosing.

Outlook does it all -- links, contacts, ticklers, calndar, reminders, repeating appointments. COmplete package. And it works okay on Macs, too!

Sorry, I use Mozilla. Won't have Outlook up and running at all.:-> I'll see if Mozilla has something.

Thanks!

If you use linux, there are several. I use Kalendar and KAlarm.

I have a BIG thing called Sidekick98 (scroll down) that does maybe more than you want...complete calendar, to do lists, address book, time zone mapper..etc...
if that's too much, there is a little 'sticky' program called ...well,,, "Stickies" which gives you little hide-or-show notes with settable alarms...

(I have and use BOTH of these daily, and they are both free)

If those don't work, there are several other PIMs (Personal Information Managers) that I have seen that are like smaller versions of Sidekick, and several other 'Sticky Note' programs. Let me know if you'd like more choices..

on the same page as Sidekick is one called TaskPlus, which looks interesting. (it mentions price, but it does have a free version which is ad supported)

furthe down that page is Week Scheduler which does some of the things you mention.

I would guess that I could find 25 more apps that are generally what you 'might' find useful....it is one of the most common types of program, and comes in all sizes and configurations with an assortment of features.

oh...and there is the first page of apps on that Son-of-Spy site...http://www.sover.net/~wysiwygx/Apps.html

with "Chaos Manager" and others listed on it...

These Post It Notes are free and might fit the bill. They act as a virtual version of the little yellow tags some folks love (and others hate after working with an addict!)
