Not sure about that. I think crow family (maybe magpie or jay) scared the life out of my Snot Cat (who believe me, is a big cat) mate and poor old Starboard (RIP years ago) was almost led into a trap by magpies who then mobbed him.

I have witnessed a weird friendship with Cassius (lean and hungry look) Crow and Dylan the rabbit though. Crow would tweak food out of rabbits mouth, hide it and then parade on the wall - like a guard doing a castle turret watch.

Never knew what happened to crow, except he got well and flew off. He (well I'm saying he) never was a pet but a bird we took in briefly.

Back when I was a young idjit and fed my cats their dry food outside on a big, flat tray, the magpies were merciless in swooping down to steal it from them. But, we had a friend who had parrots and cats all of his life and they always got along.

That's a neat video, though I am not sure of their basis for thinking the crow saved the kitten's life. It wasn't clear how old the kitten was when the crow first came upon it. Cats are amazingly able to catch and eat as much as a bird.:-) Still neat to see them share and play.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about the 'life saving' part. Since the couple were watching them from early on, I imagine the lady would have fed the kitten if it truly needed it.

But, it was kind of fun to watch (except the added sound effects kind of bugged)

Cool! Excellent video. Heartwarming.

Of course, I hope the cat stays well fed.

I hope they continue to document the relationship.

I had an unfledged baby crow brought to my ranger office in a campground in Washington State many years ago. I took it down to the son of one of the other rangers to take care of. She (we don't know if it was a she, but I named her Lenore the Crow, with apologies to Edgar Allan Poe) was quite bright. The humans taught the cats early on to leave the crow alone, and as she got bigger she used to tease the cats, flying just out of reach, or hopping along in front of them on the lawn.

She used to perch in a tree outside the boys' bedroom and when she saw movement in the house in the morning she squawked up a storm until someone came out and fed her. She ate dog food out of a can, one that had lots of veggies in it. And she learned to eat other things on her own. She stuck around for many months and when she left they didn't know if it was on her own or because a hawk or eagle got her. She was a treat to have around the place. Great guard animal - we heard her in the house and knew someone was approaching, but anyone in the yard wouldn't realize this crow was doing anything like calling out an alarm. It was just a bird in a tree.

There was an excellent episode of PBS "Nature" on crow intelligence: "A Murder of Crows".

It's available online for a while...

Yes SRS, from the little I saw of the one crow, they are quite intelligent in their own way and curious creatures in their ways. Not sure I agree with all they do, eg. I think it was one of them or relations that took a couple of blackbird chicks this year. But a crow remains interesting.

That said, blackbird (another one) was also interesting. She came down, picked bits of dry cat food, Would nick a raspberry etc. In between periods of my own bad health, I built her personal table to save her from the cat risk and she took to it.
