A just reward for our folly and arrogance in thinking we can keep wild animals in captivity and tell them what to do, for our entertainment ?

"Just reward"? I wouldn't (quite) say so, Dave. One could proffer so many scenarios into the event(s). Pissed off? Playing? Got carried away but realized the trainer was in danger and brought him back up and held him above water until he was well recovered? Various points of conjecture.

"Captivity"? The only point I "believe" is that wild animals should not be held in captivity other than for study and research. I cannot go to a zoo without weeping. When I see a wolf or some such animal pacing back and forth I just wanna throw the bastard in charge of such cruelty in the cage.

Unfortunately, freeing the animals won't happen. Too much money to be made... the bastards.

I don't mean for the keeper gnu, but for mankind in general, we never learn do we.

Why would we want to keep these wonderful creatures in captivity to ' study ' them, nothing to be learned from behaviour in captivity, it's not what these animals are really like.

Carol used to work in a zoo. We went to Zoo Atlanta the first year we were married and she pointed out and interpreted the body language of the animals. I have never been to a sadder place.

When we were in Chicago we didn't go the the aquarium because they keep belugas, and I couldn't stand to see it. I remember seeing Cuddles the killer whale in Dudley (?) when I was a kid, and dolphins singing happy birthday to me at Whipsnade (or Coventry, I can't be sure).

If anyone is any doubt about the cruelty of keeping cetaceans in captivity, then I recommend the oscar-winning documentary The Cove.

I haven't seen the Cove, but I was under the impression that it was about hunting the dolphins.

So, if we just get them to jump through the hoop a hundred thousand more times and splash a million more tourists, we might learn something? LOL!
