I have been invited to my friends (old school friends) house in Baltimore for Thanksgiving. In November. Havnt seen her for 3 years!! I may be able to go (getting more and more likely), but was wondering, just how cold will it be around Thanksgiving in November in the Baltimore, Washington area? So, could any East Coast catters, let me know roughly what to expect. Last time I went it was height of summer, and hummidty was at 100, and the temps were astonomical and sweaty. I know I can't expect that at all this time.. but need to know if I need an extra extra warm coat, n me thermals? Plus any sessions in that area? Oh, and are there any kind of traditional gifts to take with me for Thanksgiving (will be taking the usual UK goodies my friends misses). Hope someone can help. R |

Lots of music happening in the Balt/Wash area. Start with the Baltimore Folk Song Society page Thanksgiving is not traditionally a time for gift-giving. |

Daytime temps can range anywhere from near freezing to hotter-than-comfortable (30's - 80's F.). Nightime temperatures often range between near freezing and moderately cool (30's - 50's F.). It often gets quite windy during that time of year which can make it seem much colder than it is. Rainy days are common and snows, usually of small accumulation, are not without precedence. In general, I would say that you can expect moderately cold weather but bring clothes that might suit hotter temperatures. The best thing to do is to consider wearing layers of clothing so that you can be prepared for whatever comes. BTW, don't bother with packing an umbrella. It will be far better to purchase a cheap one after you get here. Thanksgiving, I am happy to say, has not yet become a gift-giving holiday, so there are no traditional gifts. I hope you have a good trip! |

( have no idea how the airlines feel about that, though) Better yet, bring a copy of your family's most beloved recipe for pie or rolls or Yorkshire pudding or whatever. At our houses, it's all about the cooking, and group coooking at that, of old favorites. Clothing, all you can do is bring layers so you can add if it gets cold and nasty. It won't be as bad as the summer trip, you can always borrow sweaters and layer up, but it's harder to peel off in summer if you don't have lighter stuff packed. Have a great trip! |

I'll bet if you brought recipes and offered to cook 'something' that would be greatly appreciated. Clothing: Lots of light layers will keep you warm and are easily shed if the temps go up. I am absolutely reeling, shocked, horrified, upset and stunned by the news that hit our computer and television screens at work here in Wales. We all stopped working and gathered round the teles in silence, all of us shocked. The first thing I did, was to phone my friend in Washington to make sure that she and hers are all ok. Thankfully they all are, but my heart goes out to all those who have lost their loved ones or still have no news of their friends and family. At the moment we (my friend and I) are suspending all plans of travel, until the situation becomes more clear. But right now both my friend and I want to go see our best friend just in the flesh and give her a big hug. I'm so sorry that this kind of terrible tragedy happened. With Regards Ellax |
