Subject: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: GUEST Date: 08 Aug 04 - 11:23 PM Heard it at a concert recently, but all I remember is the first line: "A fond kiss and then we sever..." (or something like that). Does anyone have the complete lyrics? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 08 Aug 04 - 11:43 PM AE FOND KISS is in the DT, lyrics and midi. Just enter fond kiss into the box for Lyrics and Knowledge search. ! Amazed that there is someone who doesn't know this Robert Burns song. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: Cluin Date: 08 Aug 04 - 11:52 PM A link for you: Ae Fond Kiss. A great song. Enjoy! (my favourite recording of it is by Dougie MacLean). |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: DonMeixner Date: 09 Aug 04 - 12:31 AM My favorite is Seamus Kennedy's recording and then Ronnie Brown's coming a very close, almost a tying, second. Don |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: Roberto Date: 09 Aug 04 - 02:16 AM The recording of Ae Fond Kiss that I prefer: Songs of Robert Burns - sung by Andy M. Stewart, Green Linnet, GLCD 3059, 1991 |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: masato sakurai Date: 09 Aug 04 - 07:01 AM "Ae Fond Kiss" was sung by Gill Bowman at a Burns Supper (listen here). |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: GUEST,Rob Wright Date: 09 Aug 04 - 07:10 AM Visit www.sky-web.net/taggartandwright/ and listen to Angie Wright singing it. She performed it at Lomond Festival when she was in concert with the Macalmans. Great festival great concert. She is on at the Innerleithen Festival in a couple of weeks time and she will do it then. It is a competition to win support spot for Dougie Maclean. My money is on Angie to win it but then I am a bit biased. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: Nick Date: 09 Aug 04 - 07:35 AM Lovely version sang by Karen Matheson (with Paul Brady) on Transatlantic Sessions II |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: Nick Date: 09 Aug 04 - 07:56 AM This last one may be to a different tune. It's definitely different than the one that is in the DT. Chords something like - A C#m D F#m D Bm E A Bm D F#m D A C#m D E A with a violin solo and fourth verse a tone down |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: GUEST Date: 09 Aug 04 - 04:55 PM Thanks everyone! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Aug 04 - 05:02 PM And "Ae" here doesn't really translate as "A", but rather as "One". |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 09 Aug 04 - 06:18 PM There are two tunes. Burns originally set it to Rory Dall's Port, but it was later set to Hi Oro 'S Na Horo Eile and seems usually to be sung to that tune nowadays; probably most people learn the song from records rather than books. More details in thread Haunted by a song (second half). I don't think that the questioner intended a translation, but had just misunderstood the phrase; easily done in the circumstances. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: michaelr Date: 09 Aug 04 - 07:09 PM Eddi Reader does a fine version on her CD "Sings the Songs of Robert Burns". |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Fond Kiss From: Tattie Bogle Date: 09 Aug 04 - 07:44 PM Remember it's ae as in capital A, not eye as someone I know was singing it! She was told by all assembled company how it should be pronounced. Sorry, but am I the only person who doesn't go along with Eddi Reader's interpretations of Burns songs? Sure, she's a fine singer, but there's just a bit too much note-changing and ornamentation for my liking. I had a ticket to go and see her in Celtic Connections in Glasgow 2 Januarys ago but was then defeated by horrendous weather, but I've since heard several of her interpretations. |
