I am interested in contacting anyone who has stayed at Ghyll Head Outdoor Education Centre on the shores of Lake Windermere.

It is owned by Manchester Education and used by schools and youth groups.

This year is the 40th aniversary of Ghyll Head as a Manchester Centre and we seeking contacts with people who have stayed there.

Sorry Les, I wasn't being th Thread Police, I just wondered it there was any folk activity going on there. Is that the one between Windermere (town) and Ambleside? Been past it many times but never investigated it.

We are having the celebration on 07/07/07 at Ghyll Head, which is about 3 miles south of Bowness on the Newby Bridge Road.

As it happens we are having a Folk Night at Ghyll Head on the 07/07/07. So i guess we have a reason for being on here. Anybody in the area will be welcome.

We are also having a Trivia Quiz at Chorlton Irish Centre on Friday 23 March. But I couldn't possibly comment on the rumour that some questions will be of a folk nature

As a young PE Teacher I took one of the first school groups to Ghyll Head from Levenshulme High for Girls. It was in the winter and were taken along Crinkle Crags in the pouring freezing rain and then waded back through a river to the mini bus at the end of the day. Absolutely no 'health and safety' in those days, just challenge and fun and really good food. Tony Richards was one of the leaders. I went later that year with a larger group. Stayed one night at Tranearth over below the Old Man. Tremendous for city pupils.

I was at Ghyll Head a few times in the late 60's, there was a group of us from the "Noel Timpson" youth centre, which was also run my MEC.
The folk connection is that we sang folk songs there, also any other place we went. It was a really great place, although a bit of a walk to the pub down the road. I will try to contact some old friends, I won't be there as it's an even longer walk fron Ontario Canada.
