Just for a little break from US politics - how about Aussie Politics?

The ego has landed

Malcolm Turnbull (the new leader of The Liberal Party) is a self-obsessed silvertail and his ego will not go down well with voters, says Labor.

Rudd the richest PM ever

The richest man in Parliament has played down his wealth, saying Kevin Rudd is probably the richest prime minister Australia has ever had.
Labor is trying to portray new Opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull as out of touch and arrogant because of a successful career in merchant banking and business.

Somewhat bemusing, really, watching 2 of the richest men in Australia, each trying to claim that they can identify with the poor underdogs, because they both grew up in poor single parent families, and went to expensive schools...

I suppose The Brits may find this more funny (and ironic) than some of our US friends, though...

LMAO.......Thank you for sharing a real scandal with us.....or at least a more colorful one! A guy gets nailed for chair sniffing then makes a comeback! I love it! That's serious!!! Or at least it would be in the USA.

If that happened here there'd be a national clamor to hang him by the balls and the guy would be as dead as a mackerel. Here we let them off the hook only after minor and trivial things......like repeatedly shafting the entire country. Bush steals an election, destroys the economy, costs thousands of lives uselessly, pads his pockets with money from big oil and his business cronies and yet he's still the resident of the White House. We impeached Clinton for lying about getting a blow job.

I live in Malcolm Turnbull's electorate, lucky me. The only good thing about him is the cartoons.

One particular cartoonist has a great time depicting him as a 19th century plutocrat in top hat & tails, with a big cigar in his mouth (picture him leading a protest march of lotsa' similar plutocrats - Wadda we want? MORE & MORE LOLLY!! When do we want it? NOW!!)

Nude mayhem at sacred palace

A SPANISH tourist in Tokyo has caused havoc as he swam naked in the moat around the Imperial Palace, one of Japan's most sacrosanct sites.

Police seized the bald and portly man after a nearly two-hour chase in which he hurled rocks at police and scaled the moat's walls as shocked onlookers snapped photos from their mobile phones.

The 40-year-old toured the sprawling palace in central Tokyo with five other Spanish tourists and afterwards said his bag fell into the moat, Fuji Television reported.

While the group was speaking with police to help, the man reportedly threw his belongings out of his pockets, stripped naked and dived straight into the water.

"I'm lucky I don't have very good eyesight,'' an elderly woman told Fuji Television.

"I can't believe he did this here, but he probably didn't know the significance of this area,'' she said.
Police initially approached the Spaniard in a small rowboat and tried to throw him a float.

But he suddenly began beating the water in a threatening way and then threw stones at the officers, barely missing them, footage showed.

After he climbed out of the moat, he took a nearby pole and - his pinkish body still completely uncovered - charged at the police officers who pushed him back into the water.

Police seized him as he got out of the water a second time.

Today's free papers thought he was British... and the report said that if he knew what was in the moat, he wouldn't want to swim in it!

The Japanese should have had the sense to stock that moat with dragons or crocodiles or something along that line in order to forestall this kind of gross sacrilege. Nip it in the bud, so to speak.

That Aussie Politics link Foolestroupe gave us led to a story "Watchdog to sniff out methane".

With below it a list of most popular news stories with "30 lesbians impregnated by the same man" as the top one, and the PM on the recession ("We'll survive this crisis - PM") as number three.

I think maybe they've got politics more in proportion down under...

You're probably right, McGrath.

But Turnbull still has enough ego to assert that it was solely due to his efforts as Leader of The Opposition that, when the Reserve Bank dropped its interest rate by a whole 1%, the four main banks dropped theirs by 0.8%.

While the ego may have landed it hasn't yet come down to earth.
