It's obviously a fingerstyle song but the basic chords are:

Intro:

G   F   C   G7   C G

Verse:

C   F   G   C G7 C C7

F       G   C G7 C A7

D7      G7 C G7 C G7

Break:

C    F   C   G7

C    C7      F

C    A7    G

C    G7    C G G7

Hope that helps,

Paul.

Grouping the chords into 12 bars ,it goes as follows:
(each chord symbol represents one beat, as does the forward slash)

Blake plays the first verse slightly differently from the other verses, with the second and sixth bars going F/G7/| instead of F///|

Verse:

C///|F///|C/G7/|C/C7/|

F///|F///|C/G7/|C/A7/|

D7///|G7///|C/G7/|C/G7/|

Break:

C///|F///|C/G7/|C/C7/|

F///|F///|C/G7/|C/A7/|

G7///|F///|C/G7/|C/G7/|

I have a vivid recollection of hearing this song for the first time in, I guess, 1964, my roommate had a compilation with this on it.

I couldn't believe my ears, had never heard anything like it before.

This is one of my favorite blake tunes, and IMHO one of the most difficult to play. What he does with the bass, to get that bounce is just amazing. I think it's more difficult than West Coast Blues. I just love it. the words are a bit harsh though...

EARLY MORNING BLUES
(Blind Blake)

Early this mornin', my baby made me sore
Early this mornin', my baby made me sore
"I'm going away to leave you, ain't comin' back no more"

Tell me, pretty mama, where did you stay last night?
Tell me, where did you stay last night?
Tell me, pretty mama, where did you stay last night?
"It ain't none of your business, daddy, since I treat you right"

[Verse 3]
When you see me sleepin', baby, don't you think I'm drunk
No, I'm not drunk, not a bit of it
When you see me sleepin', baby, don't you think I'm drunk
I got one eye on my pistol, and the other one on your trunk

Play that thing low and lonesome, Blake
I love you, pretty mama, believe me, it 'tain't no lie
I love you, pretty mama, believe me, and it 'tain't no lie
I mean it 'tain't no lie
The day you try to quit me, baby, that's the day you'll die
