Anon, because if this song sucks, you may feel more willing to say so. After all, I may have ulterior motives or something...

The song was written with the full awareness that I'm not above doing some of this stuff myself. Tune is...your favorite 4/4 tune. I find myself singing it to Turkey in the Straw, with a modified 2nd part.

Since my name is legion, feel free to add verses.
------------------------------

The Way The World Should Work
By Anon.

Your ideas make me frantic, and I might sound quite pedantic
When I intstruct you how to rightly use a word
If you use a nasty name, I will quickly end your game
By explaining how to conjugate the verb

Chorus:
Oh, I'm the one who'll tell you what is right and what is wrong
And if you don't agree, you are a jerk
It would be a far, far better place if I were put in charge
I'm the only one who knows the way the world should work

And now to music let us wander, on my wisdom you may ponder
For I am regarded as an expert in the field
I don't like the stuff, it's true, but I'll gladly share with you
Countless facts my research has revealed

I'll provide applicable citations, from this and many nations
And endless variations, by eminent folklorists
If you know a song not in a book, I fear you're sadly mistook
For if it isn't written, there's no proof that it exists.

And in our long discussions, there will be repercussions
If you vary from the topic, and carry it astray
For I will strongly object if you stray from the subject
And complain for the good part of a day.

If anger is expressed, oh, I will write a manifesto
On how all good people should behave
And you'll forget the fight you had and call me ignorant and sad
And in this way the harmony I save

Wow - thanks to everyone who replied. I'm completely overwhelmed by the response. (Seriously, thanks, Praise.)

I'd say more about the song, but it obviously sucks so badly no one (except Praise) even feels motivated enough to comment on it. Never mind - I'm not giving up my day job.

actually, I liked it, but didn't want to comment on it because at the time I figured I would get flamed whether I said I liked it or I said I didn't.

Y'know, it also goes well to the tune of "Universal Soldier"!

MMario, did you think I, or somebody else was gonna flame you? I posted anonymously because I think I could have been complimented just because people consider me a friend. I was hoping for an opinion based solely on the song. I think that's what I got when nobody commented. Not even worth the trouble of saying how bad it was. I don't think I'll be posting anything more that I write, which will probably add to the general quality of the site.

Whoops - sorry Mbo - I'll have to try that tune once I remember it. A friend said he knew of a better tune, but couldn't think of it at the time. I think I'll most likely just forget about the song.

Praise, I didn't even notice the typo!

I presently have a job which involves reading children's handwriting. Im getting fairly good at reading what they meant instead of what they wrote. (Which can be dangerous here, because sometimes my interpretation is waaay off.)

I owe practically everything I know about computers to my ex-boss. He refused to teach me anything, ("you don't need to know how to do that") so I had to start figuring things out on my own.

And I used to be a proofreader until all the typo's had entered my internal spell check dictionary, and all started to look correct! Glad you got what I meant. Read it the other way, it sounds really snotty!

I only just got round to looking at this thread, and I liked the song while it was anonymous (ie, before I scrolled down to see Jeri come out from cover.)

Along with Newsgroup personality, which Jeri also posted, this is a song very suitable for inserting into threads when they are going down the plughole because of this kind of thread creep. I think that is probably more effective than directly responding to the people concerned. (Though there are bits where, as Jeri indicates, it applies to most of us at times...)
