G'day,

I've avoided politics for many decades, I'd rather chisel something out of a block of wood. Recent threads have me thinking about a few chisellers whom Woodie Guthrie would have said a word or two about.

Well, Tony & George for starters - from a woodworker's viewpoint I think of them as 'T&G'...

Definition - Tongue & Groove, Mudcatters have enough imagination to carry that idea further. Howsomever, the T&G joint is used to link two boards, on edge.. (NO - don't get on edge, Spaw, I talk of boards - not Bawds). Other Cats know I'm talking about...

Definition - Board = "As thick as two planks" - how many Catters have worked with Boards like that?

Shucks, I guess this should have been a 'Song Challenge'...

Got the Idea?

I've never worked with a thick Board (of Trustees), but I've certainly known of some!

I think it should be plane that you think T&G are a couple of chiselers, hammering the public, and that they auger down only to line their own pockets and those of their cronies. Sam, politics'll nail you every time! No matter how square you try to be, how level, you saw how it can whipsaw you! If you just plumb avoid it as much as you can you'll be better off -- they might screw you, but you can bolt!

Methinks I'd better stop....

It's actually a miracle that Tony can get his tongue into George's groove at all. Gotta be a pretty crowded place seeing as how George's head is always up there. Gonna get even more crowded soon when some folks start shoving Gucci loafers and desert-camouflage combat boots up George's groove after they find out how bad they wuz lied to. 'Course, I've been wantin' to shove a pair of size 11 Doc Martens up George's groove for a long time. I'd miss the boots, but we all have to make sacrifices for the cause.

Can't someone frame these chiselers? Or clamp down on them? I'd like to see them properly nailed, the screwing they've been doing. And they're so stuck up, they should be clamped on anyway. The way they pretend to dovetail with the public good by pulling rabbets out of hats is just plane frightful. And it doesn't augur well for the future of the nation.

Tell ya what, Billy old china -- it has been a long day, no mistake. I started out this morning painting the street side of the garage, which (as you surmise) faces onto the street and was looking its age. It has this four-foot wide aluminum window stuck in it, one of those godawful characterless windows that were popular in housing developments in the 60's. I finally got fed up with the drab oldness of it and I shaped up a nice natural wooden frame around it from some oak 1x4s and 1x3s which took the whole day, because it had a sort of stepped edge on the lower half and the forty-fives didn't marry just right because the face of the house was a bit irregular. Nothing is plumb, level or square, as the old poem says... Now, bent and bruised from climbing up and down ladders, it is all mounted up and stained and caulked and cleaned and it looks downright spiffy and warm. It really raises the tone of the place. Yay. I am exhausted after cleaning up after that lot, no mistake. I'm going to pour myself a single malt and see how those Thomastik Insfeld strings on the old Martin sound today. I'm working up some new choons. Keep well and stay sober a least one day a week!

I'm pleased you didn't adze any more into the day, or you'd sing in a tenon voice. It sounds like enough of a pane replacing windows. I promise to take your last exhaustidation to heart, and will stay sober one day a week - which week sould I start? Next week sounds fine - I haven't met it yet....
