Largely forgotten the Phantom battled evil Arab Princes and African warlords for decades.

The Phantom is not even as popular as the Flash but I have proposed an update of this comic book hero who has no super powers but rather is all bravado.

His usual area of operation is Muslim Africa and the middle east although he does occaisionally make a foray to the west.

A handsome and timely research grant from DARPA might just help resurrect the Phantom to inspire our troops to Total Victory...

Here are a few examples I came up with.

Rightious yet humane torture...

etc.

The Phantom is still an on-going comic book and daily comic. I don't think he has been forgotten. The Phantom never had "super" powers.

Just for trivia buffs - the Phantom is credited as being the first costumed superhero - predating Superman and Batman by several years.   Of course, like Batman, he possess no "super" power.

From what I understand the Phantom enjoys larger popularity in countries like Sweden and Norway.

Thanks Martin, I did not think you were directing that at me.

I would actually have to schedule time to think up things to undermine our country!!   :)

I can't think of The Phantom without laughing over the hilariously hilarious movie that came out a dozen years ago. When The Phantom had his mask on, he also had black makeup on over his eyes. When the mask came off, presto, no eye makeup!

Also they somehow contrived to make it PC. Remember his faithful body-servant admonishing the British official "No smoking in the skull cave!"

I'm not sure how this works into the Muslim world other than Phantom might oppose 'honor killings'.

Can you imagine running around in a steaming jungle while wearing purple long-johns?

"He who smells the Phamtom's armpits shall surely die!" (Old jungle saying)

As far as thinking up things to undermine the country, we have a president who is doing a fine job of that.

I'm not at war with "The Muslim World," and I don't need a comic book hero who is.

Golly gee! I didn't realize there were so many Phantom fans around these parts. I've been reading about the 'Ghost Who Walks' for nigh to 60 years, and I still enjoy the reprints of the 1940s strip. In fact, as an elementry school kid, I used to buy the L.A. Herald-Express newspaper--long defunct--just because the Phantom was there.
Not only is the Ghost popular in Scandinavia, but, I understand, also in Australia. Alas, he is unavailable in L.A. area newspapers, but then neither are most adventure-type strips.
