I'm sorry, but no. I've known some very funny Australians and that writer is not one of them.

He's just exaggerating prejudices and playing on fears. You confuse humor with discomfort.

I'd have to agree with Jack on this one. It's Not terribly funny, just sort of sad.

One would have to see a similar satire, only written about corrupt and deluded western "crusaders" from an Islamic person's point of view, I suppose, to grasp how sad it really is.

Or perhaps one idealizing the man who just shot the people in the Unitarian Church. Have him walking into the Capitol and shoot Teddy Kennedy maybe or into the current Parliament to shoot the Australian PM?

Be careful in your stereotyping. You may be tarring with the wrong brush.

You should also not claim that that one "humourist" Who apparently can't tell an Arab from a Persian, and who obviously knows nothing about the history of suicide bombing even as he writes about it in any way represents something as broad and well rounded as the Australian sense of humor. I have spent long nights talking about Aussie vs Canadian humor with a friend who was an information officer at the Australian High Commission in Ottawa, Canada when I lived there.

I'm familiar with Australian humour and apparently it is you who doesn't get it.

My friends wouldn't have dealt with his "fear" of 19 arab terrorists, 15 from Saudi Arabia, by blaming the attacks on an Iranian. Do you know who would do that? George W. Bush. That isn't Aussie humour. Its Bush League humour.

I certainly do get black humour. I was raised on it. In fact, that might be a good topic for a thread.
