Subject: Lyr Add: WHITE COLLAR HOLLER (Nigel Russell) From: belter Date: 01 Apr 97 - 07:47 PM This is a fun song and I'm often tempted to play it full blast in a busy computer lab.
THE WHITE COLLAR HOLLER
1. Well, I rise up every mornin' at a quarter to eight.
CHORUS: And it's ho, boys! Can't you code it? (Wuh!)
2. And it's code in the data, give the keyboard a punch,
3. Yea, then it's home again, eat again, watch some TV,
4. Someday I'm going to give up all the buttons and things. |

Subject: White Collar Holler From: bvdrangs@enter.net Date: 13 Mar 98 - 05:59 AM I'm in a computer programming class (the real stuff, COBOL) and we heard a song called the White Collar Holler. It was done by a group from the Norfolk VA area called Dramtreo. We are trying to find the lyrics and music for this song. ANyone else have any info on this one. SOund like it is pretty old by computer standards as it refers to the Xerox line and punch cards. Thanks, Dave Hendricks bvdrangs@enter.net |
Subject: RE: White Collar Holler From: Animaterra Date: 13 Mar 98 - 06:40 AM Stan Rogers origainally recorded this song which is by Nigel Russell, published 1979 by Fogarty's Cove Music, Inc. There are Stan Rogers songbooks (still in print?), and one of them has this song. I'm not sure which of his recordings has it. |

Subject: RE: White Collar Holler From: Barry Finn Date: 13 Mar 98 - 02:08 PM You might want to give a listen to "Lining Track", a worksong from the prison/railroad, to fully appricate, White Collar Holler.

Ch:I say ho boy can you line
See the Captain sitting in the shade
Way down younder in the holler field many more. Barry |
Subject: RE: White Collar Holler From: Moira Cameron Date: 14 Mar 98 - 09:08 PM My friend and I sing this song from a women's point of view. The lyrics are basicaly the same, but for the final verse: Come home, feed the kids, sweep up the floor; Make love to my man at 10:54.. Etc. |
Subject: RE: White Collar Holler From: Alex Date: 14 Mar 98 - 11:45 PM What we need is for Nigel to issue a "WHITE COLLAR HOLLER - Release 2.0" of the song for current technology including Y2K, disparaging remarks about Microsoft, etc. This to be followed by release 2.1 which fixes the metre problems encountered in Release 2.0. |
Subject: White collor hollar From: Henry Miler, hank@black-hole.com Date: 14 Aug 98 - 02:55 PM It is in the database at: WHITE COLLAR HOLLER but that is corrupt. The middle of the song is missing. (or at least it is in lynx, looks like bad html to me) Does anyone know what the missing parts are, and how to get the database fixed? |
Subject: Lyr Add: WHITE COLLAR HOLLER (Nigel Russell) From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Aug 98 - 03:17 PM Click here for a good collection of lyrics to songs recorded by Stan Rogers. There's just one line missing from the online version of the database, and the PC version is intact. Say, Max, did you notice that little problem? Here are the complete lyrics: WHITE COLLAR HOLLER (Nigel Russell) Well, I rise up every morning at a quarter to eight Some woman who's my wife tells me not to be late I kiss the kids goodbye, I can't remember their names And week after week, it's always the same And it's Ho, boys, can't you code it, and program it right Nothing ever happens in the life of mine I'm hauling up the data on the Xerox line Then it's code in the data, give the keyboard a punch Then cross-correlate and break for some lunch Correlate, tabulate, process and screen Program, printout, regress to the mean Then it's home again, eat again, watch some TV Make love to my woman at ten-fifty-three I dream the same dream when I'm sleeping at night I'm soaring over hills like an eagle in flight Someday I'm gonna give up all the buttons and things I'll punch that time clock till it can't ring Burn up my necktie and set myself free Cause no one's gonna fold, bend or mutilate me. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright Nigel Russell and dedicated to the city of Bramalea, Ontario, Canada.
