Subject: RE: BS: mudcatcafe.com From: GUEST,cs Date: 26 Nov 10 - 06:04 AM The domain name has been bought up at some point by someone who knows of mudcat, along no doubt with lots of other famous names. The purpose being to sell them to those individuals/groups etc. who might eventually want to use that domain name. |

Subject: RE: BS: mudcatcafe.com From: GUEST,Jon Date: 26 Nov 10 - 06:05 AM Not sure what to think on that one but I suppose things can happen with domain names. I hope my memory is right here and that I am commenting fairly but I have a feeling Max did once own mudcat.com but let go of it when a long established maker of dredges challenged in a not too friendly manner. I was approached via email several times by someone who had bought and wanted to sell me folkinfo.com - I may be exaggerating a little here but a sort of you need to buy my domain name or as my com is greater than your org I can take "customers" from you. I'd guess there are all sorts of other twists... |

Subject: RE: BS: mudcatcafe.com From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Nov 10 - 01:10 PM Since Mudcat is an organization, not a group, whether Max set this up or someone who hopes Max wants to expand to this site and wants to charge him for the privilege, it's a legitimate transaction. The same kind of thing used to happen where the speculators would register the names of famous people then try to gouge them to get their own domain name if they set up a fan site. The courts don't allow that, it's a form of gouging. SRS |
