Subject: RE: Looking for From: GUEST,Tom in Long Beach Date: 28 Jan 09 - 04:31 PM I have also searched unsuccessfully for music and info on Ron Griffin. He gave a mission at our Church in Long Beach in the 70s and then stayed around to lead the music at our 11:30 mass for a year or so. I did find the following post by "Bryce" who writes that Ron Griffin was his father and passed away in 1990. http://www.recongress.org/2004/memories.htm |

He was at our retreat for seniors and often played at our masses and graduations. He was a wonderful person. My favorite song was Reaching Out. |

But Ron Griffin was my father. He passed away when I was 2, and now I'm just a few weeks from my 16th birthday, and I have found this website." The post mentioned earlier. |

Subject: RE: Looking for 'Leaven' - Ron Griffin From: GUEST,kevin Date: 11 Sep 14 - 09:01 AM I was a kid in Holy Trinity parish in San Pedro during the 70's when Ron Griffen did the music for the masses. He was fantastic. That was folk music for the novus ordinary at its best. I remember, even at that age, getting the hairs on my neck to stand up--he was so good. Looking back on it now, it seems clear that while the introduction of folk into the mass seemed like it would lead to more congregational participation, it did and it didn't. On one hand, when done well like Ron did, the congregation was really drawn into what was happening in the mass. On the other, the harmonies of folk were too complex for congregational singing. In the case of Ron's music, whether you tried to sing along or not didn't matter as he was such a great musician--a very spiritual musician that lead you into what the mass was about. So sorry to hear of his passing. A great loss to music and the Church. |

Subject: RE: Looking for 'Leaven' - Ron Griffin From: GUEST Date: 04 Aug 18 - 07:29 PM I think the Ron Griffin they are looking for lived in San Pedro, and now lives in Las Vegas. He sang for our wedding in 1987, and I was one of the kids in the Leaven he graciously allowed to sing. |

Subject: RE: Looking for 'Leaven' - Ron Griffin From: FreddyHeadey Date: 11 Aug 18 - 09:48 AM discogs has three LPs for a "Griffen" though they are listed on a page for "Griffin" https://www.discogs.com/artist/542428-Ron-W-Griffin and there is a Dr Ron Griffen with a religious blog(Methodist though) here(most recent June 018) "I taught high school when I was a young man. And in the summers I worked on a commercial fishing boat out of San Pedro.... Learning how to steer that boat became a valuable life lesson for me. We are told to live in the moment, and that is true. Each moment is all we have. We can’t get those moments back. But the question is what exactly are we living in each of those moments? I believe we are living into a future. How we perceive the future gives direction to our present. When things had gotten really bad for the Israelites some twenty five hundred years ago a prophet named Jeremiah spoke to them about God’s plan for them" https://drgriffen.wordpress.com/2018/06/25/how-to-drive-a-boat/ (but he doesn't look much like Megan's RG!) |

Subject: RE: Looking for 'Leaven' - Ron Griffin From: FreddyHeadey Date: 12 Aug 18 - 08:27 AM " ... It always amazes me that I’m even on anyone’s radar. I don’t know about Bryce and I haven’t died yet! The other site[discogs] has my albums, but spells my name incorrectly. FYI, I did re-release the In the Beginning album a couple of years ago under the name Awakenings in honor of the canonization of Pope John Paul II. The song Never be the Same was sung to him at a youth rally in 1987 by Tony Melendez. You can find the music on iTunes." https://drgriffen.wordpress.com/about/ |
