He's surpassed himself this time.

Just heard a snatch of radio with Dubya saying:-

"Most of our imports come from abroad"

We know he's as thick as pig sh*t, but what does it say about his speech writers? Sleep easy in your beds folks, MENSA has not been troubled on this occasion.

DOn't be fooled -- he is very very clever and dissembling. An artful dodger of the trickiest and most passive-aggressive sort.

I disagree with Amos. bush is thicker than 2 planks. But Rove, Cheney, et al are very clever indeed.

Correction: bush is stupid, but can sometimes be very sly. They're not incompatible.

I am convinced that Bush has a criminal mind. He is clever and slippery. The first aspect of a criminal mind is that it refuses to take responsibility for it's actions. It has an arrogant self-important attitude that will not allow for mistakes.

This election is fraught with fraud and criminal intent by Republicans who want Bush in at any cost. Bush's supporters are misguided, often well-meaning Americans who subscribe to rigid authorianism and feel that anything but simplistic answers are undermining their cultural "values". This is the opening for a Godfather to emerge who will justify illegal behavior to alleviate their insecurity.

A secure America is one in which we as a country recognize and appreciate the support of the world nations. Progressives believe in sharing the wealth of America with those in need as an investment for a secure future. Al Quaeda represents those who have become twisted with violence because they were ignored by an affluent society that cared nothing about poverty and political oppression in other lands.
If we really want to export democratic values, then we must live by them. We must respect the voting process and not try to steal elections. We must respect our government and not try to sabotage it by cutting federal programs that make our country great. The price for living in a civilized society is to pay taxes for public services.

Where Bush is clever is that he sees that he can exploit the narrow-mindedness of some Americans, notably Republicans that see everything in terms of their own self-interest including business policies and giveaways to the rich. He has successfully harnessed the Pseudo-Religious Republican Evangelicals into a voting block. They are hi-jacking America.

You folks who think Bush is dumb REALLY should read Bob Woodward's book titled, "Plan of Attack." If a whole book is too much for you, examine the index and scan the items that might comment on his dumbness.

I just checked the index. I wouldn't know how to direct you to an appropriate page.

Interesting that Woodward interviewed Bush for over three hours and reported that he answered every question asked. Woodward has been trying to interview Kerry since June and Kerry has refused to sit down with him for even a half hour.

I wonder why.

If Kerry doesn't have time for Woodward, it may be he has distinct misgivings as to Woodwqards intentions. Eh?

Maybe because he is running in a presidential Campaign Doug?...:>)
Woodward interviewed Bush in 2003, December 10th and 11th to be exact.
To ask someone to sit down in the middle of a Campaign is just plain stupid.....
Maybe Kerry will have a bit of time after he is in the White House. It would seem that the job of President allows for quite a lot of free time if Bush's trips to Texas are anything to go by.
As for Bush's "cleverness"...He has never impressed me as a very intelligent man. It would depend on what definition of "clever" folks were looking for..Savvy or Bright.....I would say he follows instruction well but has difficulty in articulating verbally.
Blessings
Jude

In spite if the Post's editorial department endorsing Kerry this week, it is still evident that the news department is pro-Bush and I'm sure Kerry is well aware of that fact...

The news department has given Bush every concievable shadow of the doubt from his personal life to his politics. Yeah, if I were Kerry, I'd avoid Bob Woodward like radiation...

As to Bush's cleverness. Yeah, he's real clever which is fine in most folks. In his? No so fine because of his other personality disorders.

What Bush seems to posess is an ability to connect personally with his base. This goes beyond policy, fact or ideas. His cleverness is in his ability to exploit this talent. Many dicatators have had this ability such as the Perons in South America, even Saddam amoung his Sunni supporters. Hitler was obviously a magnetic performer whose personality seemed to eclipse his negative ideology.

Bush was apparently popular in his fraternity at Yale, the go-to guy if you wanted liquor or girls or whatever. They called him Bushtail since he was so busy.

He is able to project a kind of sincerity that goes beyond what he actually says. He has been able to exploit the anti-intellectualism that is now prevalent in some segments American society by making fun of it.

He has correctly surmised that many Liberals are intellectual types and many on college campuses as professors. He has been able to convince his base that the media is somehow Liberal which is the biggest joke of the age. The media is owned by corporate conservatives who now want to force their political views on their media outlets unless it becomes
uneconomical to do so. The head of Viacom for example is voting Bush because he feels that this will help his company's bottom line.

Bush does have the blessing of the rich corporate owners and lobbyists which is clever on his part. I suspect that much of his cleverness can be attributed however to Karl Rove, the inheritor
of Lee Atwater and his dirty tricks campaigns.

Rove has been cited as "Bush's Brain".
