Eight of my family had booked into the Blue Ball Inn in Sidford to go to this years Sidmouth Festival. We have just heard it burned to the ground, dreadful shame it was a really beautiful ancient Inn.
Now my problem is where to stay, we have all done the camping in a tent ,then caravan, last time we hired a house in Beer Regis(too far out)
can anyone recommend a pub or hotel that might have 4 double rooms?

Unless there are a lot less people than there used to be, due to the new regime, you will be lucky to find anywhere in Sidmouth with four double rooms. Most places get booked up a year in advance, or used to. Maybe the tourist info place would be a good place to start?

I heard about the Blue Ball and it is a terrible shame. Beautiful old building. They will never be able to make it what it was again

Just about every guesthouse is listed here: a new one is Lavenders Blue just up the hill on the A3052 towards Exeter. They might not have 'repeat' bookings from previous years. Pictures of the fire aftermath via the link on hotels page. http://www.seered.co.uk/hotels.htm

Thanks all
The pictures of the fire are dreadful, what a horrible thing to happen.
Lynne, the pub where Bill and I ran a folk club for many years, The Bell in Thorpe le Soken Essex, also burnt down, that too was very old. It has been rebuilt in the same style and looks great now, even though we all know it is a copy of the old pub.
Fingers crossed we will find beds somewhere!

I do hope they can do the same then, but it's still not QUITE the same is it? I guess thatch doesn't help when it comes to fires.

The place we've been staying at teh paast few years is very good, and even if they haven't got the rooms themlelves they might be able to advise - these bed and breakfast people tend to know each other. There's a whole row of B and B places next door to each other on the same street, and it's close to the centre.

Here's a link to them - Groveside, Vicarage Road, Sidmouth You'll see they specifically mention the folk festival on the page.

That is SO sad. I hope there were no casualties.

Peter, Les and I used to have breakfast there after caravanning further up the hill. A beautiful old building (and fab breakfasts).

I am gutted today, as the holiday company just phoned me up and told me the owners of the property we were to stay in have just withdrawn it. So after having booked in early Feb, we are now left with nowhere to stay. I doubt very much we will find another self catering, but I will try the suggestions for b&b's. I'm feeling very angry and upset at the moment, I thought it was all sorted. Glad you are sorted out, billybob.
Fingers crossed.

I just don't think I would last a whole week on a festival campsite, 3 nights at Towersey nearly do me in.

Anne
