I just saw the last episode of Six Feet Under, having plowed through all five seasons on DVD. That was one of the best TV shows I've ever seen. Great writing, casting, directing, acting, editing, etc. As all shows do, it had a few duds (eyes of the beholder, though), but overall it was just a very moving show, and often subtley and darkly hilarious. The opening death scenes ranged from very poignant (the infant in the crib) to very funny (the woman who thought she was witnessing the rapture, when it was a really a trucklod of blow-up sex dolls come loose). This is a series I'll never forget, and the final episode, particularly the last 10 minutes, is a masterpiece.

Thanks to HBO for taking the risk with a show about a family-run funeral home. How many networks would have? My thanks to Radriano for introducing me to the show via Netflix.

Any other mudcat fans of it here?

Chanteyranger

Leadfingers, it was on U.S. television. Hopefully it will make its way to syndication in the UK.

If it doesn't, rent all the DVDs - great, great, GREAT show. No hyperbole.

Yeah, there were some good episodes in the first season, although there were scenes involving the gay son's sex life that could have been hinted at (like the one in the Las Vegas parking garage). I never got past the first season,(or maybe it was the second season - the oldest son was going in for brain surgery) though, because they just struck me as a very self-destructive family and in the end, I just didn't care enough to rent the next season. Does it get any better? If I knew that they stopped being so dysfunctional, I'd rent the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed seasons 1 and 2 which I ended up seeing on someone else's DVDs. Not enough to go out and buy more, though. Loved that little redhead.

I bought the first season at a discount, then rented the rest through Netflix. That's a good way to see it, Kat, through Netflix, that is.Yes, they are dysfunctional, RS, but the characters also develope and change.

Excellent show. HBO continues to push the boundaries on television. Carnivale, Deadwood, Rome, Sopranos - all great stuff, but SFU was the best.

Cheers,
Michael

I watched the series from the beginning, thanks to hearing a critic's raving about it in advance. Usually I start watching these things a year or so in, and then need to catch up who is who and why things happen. I also thought that Six Feet Under's last episode was one of the top things ever on TV. It was the most rewarding way possible to end a series, with with Claire's (the redhead's) little giggle as she started her new life - a small but extremely eloquent sound. Then the vignettes of everybody's future (predictions or just Claire's imaginings?..) underlaid by the most perfect music. Really breathtaking.
