I'm sticking this is BS: though it really was about the music.

Celtaddict met me at King Richard's Faire in Carver, Mass Sunday. We had a good time - right from the morning when we met outside to watch as the Pope's representative tried to take over the shire - to the end of the day when Celtaddict joined our motley ad hoc musicians group to sing "Mairi's Wedding" at the finale.

Lots of good music and merriment in between.

She did miss meeting my great-niece Sophia - but Sopia made her stage debut (at 7 weeks old!) on Saturday - in my arms for a rendition of "Lullaby for a borrowed child"

What more can one ask for on a weekend but good weather, good music, good friends?

Glad to hear that you had great weather at your festival as well. It makes such a difference!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

It was lovely all around! Great to visit with a member of the Faire 'family' (and I do admire the term familyoffaire) so I got to meet all the musicians I ordinarily just get to listen to!
Had to buy a new dress though to live up to MMario, the Duchess, Shanough, and the lot.

I glad you both had a good day & I wish I could get down that way to see you Leo & spend a day at the Faire. In the pas whenthe kids were younger it was a favorite & we'd go every yera. Alwayshad a good time. Enjoy.

Barry

So, for those who might get there:
There is a new madrigal group, who are doing some beautiful harmonies and working on more.
There is a man playing an organ with a lovely soft clear sound; it is made of bits of rubber pipe, beer glasses, and assorted odds and ends and I wish I could tell you what he calls it.
The Lost Boys (boyos clearly) are sending some pretty wild tunes skyward. Don't even ask about the nipple-flame-tranfer.
Prince Vincent of the Gypsies has a voice that would not sound out of place on a Broadway stage.
(This really is a music thread too of course.)
Some of the young princesses are doing some impressive singing too.
I tend to go for (1) song (2) costumes and (3) jousting (2 & 3 provide such fun photo ops) and had often wondered how many of the songs, costumed groups, and performers were scheduled/employed and whether some just happened. Now I have a hint.
What a joy to got to sing along, though!

you were there for the *good* madrigal group day (They have a rotating membership and several combinations are not as up to snuff as discriminating listeners could wish. Sunday's group were rockin'!

Why shouldn't they ask about the flaming nipple transfer? Granted, it isn't music, but it was interesting - I think that would be the correct term.

It's interesting that the casts of 'village Voices' and the 'Pub sing' are volunteers. Those people work their butts off for the faire! And the greman princess does have a great voice - even when competing against the (miked and amplified) Lost Boys.

Jeff - I'm going to try! honest!

Hope to see you MMario. Have you heard that there are only pub sings on 3 weekends this year? Celtic weekend, Adventurer's weekend and the final weekend. I have been assured that it will be back next year for the full year.

Give us a hint, please? I gather you are talking about a long-running ren-faire in Maryland?

I think she's still reeling from seeing the flaming nipple transfer - preceded and followed by shaving of various anatomy.

Actually I was thinking along the lines of, Maryland is a fairly big state. . .
In my work I have seen various shaved body parts before. I did think the under-the-kilt job appeared fraught with hazard. I hope he didn't muss his lipstick.
But Google tells me of this:
Maryland Renaissance Festival
I think I need to sample more different Faires.

Maryland is a great faire to go to if you get a chance. The Stupina show is *incredibly* funny; (I can say that without having seen the newest version) and the music is fantastic.

Lots of music, lots of shows, many taverns, and, of course, shopping!
