Happy Birthday, Mr. Penniman. I saw him at Doncaster in 1964 and he was magnificent.

I remember my father saying, who the hell is "Jenny, Jenny, Jenny!"

Happy birthday Little Richard.

Jim

The year you saw him in Doncaster must have been on the same tour as I saw him in Grimsby.

We did a couple of his numbers at the Tuesday sess last night (I did "slippin and slidin" so I could count it as a Buddy Holly number too!)

R

I have a history of having been serenaded with Little Richard songs on more than one occasion.

When I was 11 and in primary school, my first boyfriend used to sing "Tutti Frutti" to me.

Some years later I got "Jenny Jenny Jenny" from another boyfriend. Only natural I suppose, considering my name.

Thanks for the link Azizi, my concentration is too low to read thru all the threads right now due to illness, so I've just treated myself to a couple of hours of vintage rock n roll, including Danny & the Juniors At The Hop. Now I can go to bed buzzin' to the echoes of Jeery Lee, Chuck B. Buddy H. Fats & Lil' Richard. Lifted my spirits.

You're welcome, bradfordian.

"YouTubing" is like searching for buried treasure. You can find some wonderful gems but you gotta sift through a lot of mud to get to them.

I guess "mud" isn't the best term for "junk" to use on Mudcat. But you know what I mean...

I hope you feel better soon!

Azizi

Just seen this thread -

I grew up with this guy !    not many people recognize him as a balladier, but he WAS:

I love :

Directly from my Heart
The Most I can Offer
and my ABSOLUTE favourite is

(I'm) "Wonderin"   (do you love me any more?)

I say IS, because I STILL play these albums (I have three) from 1956.

(thanks Mr Richard Penniman for all the pleasure you have given me ....)

Jo-Jo

"Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul,
But who wants to be the Queen when you're the King of Rock and Roll,
And I'm the King"

from an album of LR's I heard in the early 1970s. Can't recall the title of the album, but it was, as usual with LR, great.
