Eh ya think that maybe this is something that is a teeny bit dodgy?

Cruise missiles cruise the US skies at night.

"the public was never in any danger" so says a spokeperson. Huh?

Get a grip.
This is taking 'Homeland' security into a whole other dimension.

Inventory control is always a problem! I do hope they're able to return them before the overdue penalties become too great.

I wonder if they asked for ID before checking them out?

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

"the public was never in any danger" so says a spokeperson....

...."though conventional explosive material in the warhead could have detonated."

right...and done what to the 'other' stuff in the warhead?

It's just confetti and things like that, Bill. Hard candies, trinkets -- these are just fancy pinatas.

The release I read also cites an unnamed AF source as saying, "Heads are going to roll."

They did say that, "Any time you have nuclear material on board, if the airplane crashes, nuclear material can be spread in the immediate area of the crash, so you get radioactivity in the immediate area of the crash."

Radioactivity is the least of their problems. Plutonium is extremely toxic and a little bit goes a long way. A few pounds of loose plutonium can poison hundreds of thousands of folks. But there was never any danger.

LOL, Kaleea!

I'm just glad nobody let the shrub near the red phone while they were in the air. THIS is unbelievable!

Yah, some nations just can't be trusted with weapons of mass destruction. We've been complaining for years about the poor security that the Russians exercise over their nuclear sockpiles. I suppose this is another opportunity for people to educate themselves on how dangerous these weapons are, even in the "right" hands.

I suppose that once the cruise missles were delivered to be disposed of, they would have been sent through some giant compactor/shredder. I wonder at what point the disposal technicians would have realized (in their brief remaining life) the nature of their problem.

"Leaping lizards, we've got a problem!"

You got teenagers in the house, Charley? 'nuclear sockpiles' sound dangerous. :)

They're fairly common in middle-class homes that house teens, especially teen males with an interest in sports. They're relatively stable until and unless matching socks get too close together, or until exposed to detergent or maternal attention.

Then....blaaammmmmmm!

'nuclear sockpiles'

Oh, dear! Socks probably do have a longer halflife than weapons grade plutonium.

Which somehow reminds me of this verse:

The next came in was a sock troll
Whose dress was exceedingly droll,
Whose dress was exceedingly droll,
When he joined in the jovial crew;

For he was attired in socks he'd snatched,
Argyle, stripped, and some was patched,
And not a single one did match,
When Jones's Ale was new, me boys,
When Jones's Ale was new!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Actually "heads will roll down the line" so no one on top will be taking responsibility.
I love this:
"The Air Force announced that all flights of fighters and bombers in the United States will be halted on September 14 to allow for a review of procedures."
Given security concern and the fear of terrorist attacks is this something we want to announce to the world?
