Somehow a guiding light

Subject: for Wotcha! Lyr Somewhere Along The Rd. From: Kernow John Date: 14 Nov 99 - 05:43 PM Wotcha! Came to Cornwall recently and we managed to visit and sing at three of our local pubs. He performs a mean shanty and took us by suprise with some different versions of familiar songs. Here's one of the songs you asked for Brian.
SOMEWHERE ALONG THE ROAD by Tim Hart
This song although written by Tim Hart while doing the chores and waiting for Maddy to come home can be used in a different way. |
Subject: RE: for Wotcha! Lyr Somewhere Along The Rd. From: Wotcha Date: 15 Nov 99 - 11:39 AM BAZ, Thanks ! Exporting the good songs to Kuwait, and as of this weekend to the hashers/Marathon runners of Bahrain ... (although hash and marathon don't belong in the same sentence generally speaking ...). And I'll plug for BAZ and the good folks of Kernow (Cornwall). Some superb multitalented musicians down there: psaltry, mandolin, concertina, fiddle, banjo, guitar, recorder and Bodhran spring to mind. The perfect folk holiday ! Another shantyman, Dave of Hanging Johnny, is putting shanties on the map in the UK. Look out for his tapes. Meanwhile keep an eye out for some New York shanty acquaintances: Liam's Brother et al. Coming to a pub (Bodmin) near you! Cheers, Allahamdalla, Brian |
Subject: Somewhere Along the Road From: Dragonfly Date: 07 Jun 00 - 08:31 PM As sung by Maddy Pryor (sp?). I'd also appreciate knowing the songwriter, when written and any other info you might have. Thanks |

Subject: RE: for Wotcha! Lyr Somewhere Along The Rd. From: GUEST,Dodgyfolk@hotmail.com Date: 12 Jun 02 - 03:25 PM Are you involved with folk music in Kuwait? I lived out there a couple of years back and was very involved with the Ahmadi folk club. I'd love to know what is still going on out there. Cheers GLYN OWEN |
Subject: RE: for Wotcha! Lyr Somewhere Along The Rd. From: Wotcha Date: 12 Jun 02 - 11:16 PM Glyn, I havae been back in the USA for the past 2 years (wreaking shanty havoc on Chicago and now the DC area). When I was stationed there (99-2000), we had quite a revival going. 2 different folk groups: one group, the older more established event, was run by the Irish crowd and included blues (with amplifiers no less). The second crowd was based out of folks villas and rotated duty every couple of weeks ... I think they still meet (I'll have to launch an email to the Hash House Harrier crowd ...). Others, like me, have moved on to various parts of the world. I'll never forget the delicious irony of ANZAC Day when 3 of us sang for the Aussies and Kiwis -- not one of us was born in Australia (2 POMs and 1 Yank with an English accent ... go figure). The Kuwait Theater (and Panto) still goes strong from what I have seen. Yep ... there's stealth culture in Kuwait! Alhamdillolah!! By the way ... BAZ ... see you in July ... coming to visit Cornwall and the West Country. Cheers, Brian |
