Subject: Anyone want my little old caravan?
From: Richard Bridge

I got a new (well, old, but less old) caravan last season, and my previous one (a little 1984 LEDA) is still cluttering up my drive. Offered free (subject as below) to mudcatter.

Everything still works, but I will remove the 3-way fridge (that I put in new new the season before at a cost of about £300, and has the self-lighting system so you never get back to the van to find it blew out and your white wine is warm) unless I get a sensible offer for the fridge as part of the van.

I will also remove the 100 watt speaker system boom box(!) and car radio/CD player - .

She is a two single/one double layout, with overhead shelves for guitars etc in place of the original high-up cupboards at the sleeping end. Shelves will take 4 guitars, 2 mandolins, bodhran, song books, small 5-watt battery guitar/mandolin amp and box of CDs! Ideal festival van, in consequence.

Chest of drawers at front.

Cupboard over fridge and worksurface. Storage below that I use for beer and wine.

Two-ring hob, grill and oven, round sink, drainer with flap-over work surface, cupboards over, and cupboard under sink. Replumbed with new taps after Pigs Ear and Dead Horse last year when some of you may have seen me arguing with it (I won in the end). Drawer and cupboard under drainer.

Carver cascade water heater (mark one) and onboard electric-pumped H&C water. Shower compartment (shower works well) with sink and portapotti.

Wardrobe with storage over.

TP2 Trailerpack/battery charger, usual zig unit. Twin electrics all work. 240V sockets for when you are plugged in.

More storage under beds.

Usual front locker for gas etc.

Fiamma gas fire works well (easy to light).

All windows waterproof (plastic modern double-glazed type) and big overhead window at front that makes the front almost into a conservatory on a nice day!

Noticeably dented roof, but it is watertight. Floor creaks a little but supports people of up to 20 stone - and John Barden has walked safely on it!

Curtains and cushions not too tatty. Carpet not too tatty.

Clean and grey water containers hoses, etc.

20 metre hook-up-cable at a price to be negotiated.

2 gas bottles (the small ones, may be some gas left, but if you change the adapters there is room for bigger ones, I have tried it - you will need to load up differently to keep the nosewheel weight under control with bigger bottles though)

No awning (but rail present if you want to use one).

Really light (under 700 kg unladen) and can be towed by small car - until I got Volvos I was pulling her easily with a Skoda Felicia 1600. Stable up to nearly 70 mph (illegal). Brakes very effective. I got pullied over by PC plod on the way to Fareham and Gosport the year before last for a safety check and she passed with no adverse comments - and a apoken "In better condition than we expected, sir!"

Most manuals and so on still present. I can probably find a spare pair of towing mirrors as well. No spare wheel but tyres good. I will not be including the bulldog stabiliser either.

Obviously you will need a towball to tow her away. I can deliver within reason but the cost per mile will be a bit of a pain as obviously I will have to charge for there and back (at under 20 mpg towing with a Volvo)! I will not tow her around for inspection. If you want to inspect, come to me (recommended).

PM me re: contact if interested.
The musical aspect of this thread seems only ancillary. Moved to BS.

Age is specified in the first line - 1984 (I think, no guarantees). I have two interested by PM already, so PM me or get Richard to phone me or email me (you have my email address from last Easter), MGAS. A factor for me is whether the interested party wants to buy the fridge or would prefer me to remove it.

A question for all catters - if all 3 (or more) want her, how do I decide??

Of course, 1984, a good year and already mentioned as you say, silly me! S'OK, think ours will probably last another season of partying, mind you the fridge has stopped working yet again. 'Twas the shower & hot water that attracted my attention as they seem kinda luxurious. But does it have a piece of string hanging from the skylight with a mouse attached to it?

Hey VT, that's clever!!!

If there was some way of getting it over here to Eugene Oregon I would love to have it.

It's in Kent, UK, and probably much too small by transatlantic standards where a 25 footer is a "small" trailer and most seem to be 5th wheel setups!

It would tuck in nicely between my old 60s 13' Shasta and Rog's old 14' 60s mongrel in the backyard, both used only for storage these days. More posh than ours.:-)

New Jersey is closer and we can keep it in the driveway between weekends. According to MapQuest, all we have to do is teach it to swim between Southhampton and Long Island!

Well, subject to agreement of the price of the fridge it looks as if a prudent and careful person who has not stuck their head above the parapet on the thread will be getting it.

I may have traced a free awning to go with it too - from a separate donor in Dartford - but that's still a maybe and it may or may not exactly fit...

How about I fit you to the Volvo towbar? Would that suit?
