Gruel is a very thin porridge, usually made to feed invalids or the elderly. Does anyone have a recipe handy for Brazilian gruel?

In Brazil, Goma, a manioc starch, fills the stomach. In fact, the manioc root may be viewed as the symbolic plant, which, when made into a gruel, fills babies' stomachs for mothers who can no longer provide breast milk because of chronic malnutrition. This gruel is used by the middle and upper classes as a traditional satisfier for hungry babies. Comidinhas, little foods, are often classified as luxury foods for the rich and filling foods for the poor (Scheper-Hughes, 1992).

When the Russians saw how successful Paul Newman's Movie "Cool Hand Luke" was, they made a version of their own. It was about an heroic Ukranian peasant who fed the poorest people in the land. They called the movie "Gruel Hand Uke".

what we have now is a self-defeating hypothesis....all the quirkier minds here are now on the lookout for threads with obscure and off-the-wall titles. TRUE creativity would concoct a thread title that didn't push ANY buttons, but I suspect that would be quite difficult under the circumstances.
