I think my uncle Pete might think this is funny.

I have just been phoned by Blossom, who spoke to Dilligaf a little earlier. Pete received his tracheotomy this afternoon. Otherwise no change.

Pete will be desolated (when the time comes) to hear he missed Martin (you know who)'s 60th birthday party, for which Martin has (are you ready for this?) allegedly bought a barrel of beer - surely a first!

Bloss is going to drink his share and Pete's too.

Happy May day to one and all,
Petes Mri scan shows no infection of the brain, the old git has the reactions of a baby which my daughters whose at the moment is doing a course on battlefield injuries !! said is a good sign he can move if you inflict pain and he is trying to cough despite the fact he has this tube in his throat, They are now going through more tests trying for epilepsy and all sorts but at the moment he is confounding the poor Spainish doctors in the same way he has confounded the the rest of us for years. What a nasty shock for him when he wakes up and relises as Dave Grabham says he he is not in a vat of Master Brew shouting "Nice Bum" at all the nurses.
Love and hugs to all of you, have passed on all your messages to the deaf old git, missing you and missing dancing at dawn and sweeps Dilligaf xx

Happy May Day from TDL.
Good news that their is no brain infection. Sounds as though he's in recovery. If the whole busisness has left him with epilepsy, it's controllable... I have lived with it for over 40 years. See you all at Rochester. Sue

I have now spent ages reading through all these messages (saves working!) and it's great to see so many messages of good wishes for my Dad. Thank You

As you know myself and sister went to see Dad last weekend and will probably be going again soon but Val's daughter will be going out to stay soon. I spoke to Val this morning and the latest is that Dad has had a brain wave test which showed that most of his brain is working ok which is good (better than it was before this happened I would imagine seeing as he hasn't had a pint in days!). Hopefully the rest of his brain will recover in time and he will stop pretending he is Sleeping Beauty and wake up. As before though it is just a horrible waiting game now.

Speak to you all soon and I hope that those of you who are performing at The Sweeps this weekend have a great time and that you all have a pint for Dad - We wouldn't want the pub takings to suffer!!!

I was out but Val phoned this afternoon and spoke to Jeff (who used to be Andy Martin and before that used to be Andy George, and who has known Pete even longer than I) and apparently Pete is still in a coma and there is no improvement. I am told she seemed pretty down about it.

I spoke to Val again. She is not too bad, emotionally, I am glad to say. I hope when my bits drop off I have someone as strong as that batting for me.

Pete-wise, the quacks have now eliminated all the things they expected to find (meningitis, viral infections, bacterial infections, strokes, infections in thelower brain, intercranial haemorrhaging, etc). As Val put it, "They have eliminated the possible, now they are starting on the impossible". There was hydroencephaly but the cause seems not to be establishable.

The MRI stuff shows a brain with all the right electrical impulses in all the right places. All of the most basic reflexes are present.

The next step will be to check the exotic issues of the Amazon basin - the place of the last Val&Pete exotic holiday. In theory nothing could lurk for 6 months nad then spring up -- could it?

Transport to the UK will not be possible until the tracheotomy is removed. Timing on that is vague, since although Pete seemingly can breathe unassisted - why take a chance of something going wrong?

If Pete does come back - where should he go? Medway and Darenth (Murdertime and Death Valley) are to be avoided at all costs, but in view of the opacity of the case a proper London teaching hospital might be a runner.

Can we get it on to "House"?

Just an FYI on the positive side of things. I was talking to our IT guy at work about my Uncle Pete and he told me that a very similar circumstance had occurred with his brother-law last year. Same initial diagnosis which turned out to be false. His brother in-law was in a coma for over a month and just woke up one day with the docs completely at a loss for cause but with the basic assumption that it was some bizarre parasite. His brother in law recovered fully but was somewhat pissed at having missed a months worth of ale.

As of today, it seems, there is a strange bacterium present in Pete's brain. Allegedly Bloss knows how to spell it so I await enlightenment. Anyway, it is a bacterium that is normally present, but can sometimes misbehave, and it is a puzzle at this stage to know why it did not succumb to the antibiotics - if it is sinister.

Sending you all my love from a very hot and sunny Spain. at least the weather has improved, Pete is still in a coma Probably enjoying the bed baths and the rub downs with oil he gets everyday. Decided today not to keep asking him for his pin number and definatly will not tell him its his round or he may never wake up,
missing dancing like mad, anyone in Alicante fancy staring a morris side?
Sing well, drink hard and dance well at the weekend.
Love and hugs
Val
PS when this is over I have booked myself a nervous breakdown I finally think Pete has driven me to one !!

Hi Val, once again, BIG HUGS for you and the old sod from me and the rest of Gundulf!!

We did what you said, we were out at Sweeps and danced well, drank well and sang well!! It feels VERY wrong not having you both here though. Several of us have said that every now and again, when we are out, we drift away and start thinking about what is going on.

Gill is doing a fine job of keeping the ladies under control and Big Dick is doing a grand impersonation of you too, keeping us ALL under control!. We're getting on with it Val, but we want you both back as soon as poss - so give Pete some of your finest verbal, slap him with a wet kipper and just let him know that thee is a big space here at the moment - and it's Pete shaped!

Keep it together girl - you are one of the strongest people I know.

Love and kisses

Kev

Thankyou all for your good wishes for our dad, Tam and I are finding things harder to deal with as time goes on, it was nice to see so many familiar faces at the sweeps yesterday not least my god father Dave Grabham and his children who i haven't seen for years, but i agree with most of you that it wasn't the same without my dad ( i could actually walk into a pub where slattery were playing without having a greeting called over the pa which could sometimes be quite embarrasing- however i would have given anything to have been embarrassed yesterday)I hope it won't be too long before we can fly out to see him again but it is extremely difficult with too young children, Val is doing a fantastic job looking after him out there so I know he is in safe hands. love charlottexx

As of today I have no idea what is going on Axa word of warning do not insure with them they can make a crisis out of a drama. informed me that pete would be going home on saturday despite the doctor telling me that they would be doing a brain biopsy on tuesday! when I asked axa where he would be going, they said we don,t know wheres your nearest hospital, have you ever tried spelling darenth valley to a spainaird? then phoned me back to tell me this wasn,t a definate definate but when they have a definate definate definate their words not mine they will tell me pending a doctors report!!
so if you happen to be at an airport and a hospital bed with a comatose pete goes round on the luggage carasol can possible let me know cause I get the feeling I may be the last to know if axa suddenly decide to move him as their communication skills are s""t

What a nightmare !! Do the puppies have to go into quarantine for the journey home !!!!!!
Saw Blossom at Sweeps as he was off to the Cathedral to light a candle and have a quiet moment for the old git during Evensong. I thought this was a lovely idea and decided to do the same
Picture the scene.... mid Sweeps.... as I stroll into the Cathedral entrance, totally oblivious to the bells on my shoes
a) cos I've been wearing them all day
b) Your ears ring with bells at Sweeps anyway
c) and OK, yes I may have imbibed a little !!!
The look I got from the lady inside was enough to remind me.... so I literally backed out (maybe thinking it would be quieter... but I just stumbled on the upwards step and jingled more than ever!)
I had to make do with a quiet moment listening to Hot Rats at Boley Hill...is that an oximoron, or is that me !!!
Big slobbery ones to you both from us...
