The site www.emusic.com has some arrangement where the customer pays a flat fee and can then download as many MP3 tracks as they like.

The site says that half the profits are paid to the artists.

Does anyone know to what extent this works? My guess is that 'minority' music like folk could be penalised this way, in the same way it is under the Performing Rights charging scheme, but I don't really know.

Hmmm...interesting site, thanks for posting about it. I notice they claim to be a "legal" mp3 site. If you click on "About emusic" you can also read the following, which seems significant:

They certainly have some good stuff listed.
