Subject: BS: 17th April 1948 From: julian morbihan Date: 17 Apr 08 - 12:37 PM Today is my birthday and so I did a search on the Internet for anything of interest on the day I was born. I find it disappointing that the only item of importance was UN Resolution 46 - "Considering it is of the utmost urgency to bring about a cessation of acts of violence in Palestine and establish conditions of peace and order in that country." That was 60 (SIXTY) years ago and we seem no nearer achieving that aim! |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Peace Date: 17 Apr 08 - 12:41 PM The War to End All Wars was a bit of a let-down too. Happy Birthday to you. |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Becca72 Date: 17 Apr 08 - 12:55 PM Happy Birthday, Julian Be careful what you wish for...my father's best friend, Marshall Dodge was killed on my 10th birthday and the space shuttle exploded on my 14th birthday. |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Peace Date: 17 Apr 08 - 12:58 PM For your next birthday, please think about GWB and Dick Cheney. Think about them lots, Becca. |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Rapparee Date: 17 Apr 08 - 01:13 PM Gracious! Becca has a birthday and disasters happen! So, stop having them. Apparently Julian doesn't have disasters and things on HIS birthday. A UN resolution...quite the gentlemanly thing, I'd say. Happy Birthday. |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 17 Apr 08 - 01:59 PM Rapaire, don't suggest that Becca stop having birthdays; the alternative is not good. Peace, that comment about B & C is ... beneath you, altho' I can understand your dislike of them. Peace, I was born on 11Nov19--, an anniversary of the War to End All Wars. Not only was it a bit of a let down, I believe there is an almost straight line between that Peace and many of the problems of today. Happy Birthday, Julian. |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Peace Date: 17 Apr 08 - 02:03 PM Between the two of them they have killed tens of thousands. Maybe they can just serve time in jail. As for beneath me: no, it's not. |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 17 Apr 08 - 03:05 PM It's 34 years ago today my 17 yr old brother was killed by a drunk driver. Disasters do happen, every day of the year. They may not be of world shattering importance, but they shatter someone's world. Happy birthday anyway.... LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Becca72 Date: 17 Apr 08 - 03:56 PM I stopped celebrating them a few years ago, Rapaire...so far that seems to have worked re: disasters. I was starting to get a complex! :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 17 Apr 08 - 05:01 PM This thread reminds me of the great story of the lady who is on her death bed with her husband beside her and she says to him"...darling, when I had a car accident you were beside me, when I was originally diagnosed with a fatal illness, you were there, when my mother died you were there----you know I think you are bad luck. Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Zhenya Date: 18 Apr 08 - 12:38 AM Julian - Happy (now belated) birthday! You share your birthday with Nikita Khrushchev and Victoria Beckham, among other people. Now that's a pair! The rest of your personal list can be found on this site: Birthday Buddies Interesting - I see that I share my birthday with Boris Yeltsin - also Lisa Marie Presley and Don Everly. And although he has been for some reason omitted from the FamousBirthdays.com site, I happen to know I also share my birthday with Sir Francis Child! Becca72 - I also had a space shuttle blow up on my birthday - For me it was the Columbia in 2003. I'm, guessing you were referring to the Challenger disaster in your case. Is this like the question, what are the odds that two people in the same classroom witll have the same birthday? i.e. What are the odds that 2 people on the same Mudcat thread will have space shuttle explosions on their birthdays? |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: jacqui.c Date: 18 Apr 08 - 07:59 AM My ex's birthday is September 11th. I share the date with Napoleon and Princess Ann and was born on the same day as India and Pakistan became independent states. It was also the date of the Omagh bombing. |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Becca72 Date: 18 Apr 08 - 09:20 AM Zhenya, Yes, I was referring to the Challenger in 1986. Wow..that is a strange coincidence. Must mean we're going to get along well together! :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 18 Apr 08 - 09:25 AM Talking of odds... our office (until Feb when they moved us all around) had two people sharing a birthday in September and three people sharing a birthday in April. Of those three April birthdays, two have epilepsy. In an office of 30 people, what are the odds? LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Joe_F Date: 18 Apr 08 - 08:52 PM My parents kept the New York Times for the day I was born (28 October 1937). There is nothing memorable on the front page, but nothing good either. |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Deckman Date: 18 Apr 08 - 10:39 PM My birthday was hijacked a few years ago: Waco, Texas; Oklahoma City bombing! Bob |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: John O'L Date: 19 Apr 08 - 01:28 AM Hope you had a happy birthday Julian. My wife and I were married on 17th April 1993. This was our crystal anniversary. |
Subject: RE: BS: 17th April 1948 From: Acorn4 Date: 19 Apr 08 - 07:13 AM I'm in the illustrious company of Elvis, david Bowie and Shirley Bassey(Jan 8th) I think Oliver Cromwell had a lot of coincidental things happening on Sept 3rd - important victories like Preston and Worcester, also died on that date. |
