Some of the things that would make me vote for any one of the parties when the next general election comes along in the UK

Power given back to the police. Law and order enforced. Asbo's locked up or made to do 2/3 years in the army on the front line.

Matron's brought back on the hospital wards and given total charge. Sack all the statistically pen pushing, we must meet our target, admin hitlers in the hospitals. getting back to caring for the patients.

Stop making Pensioners have to sell their houses to pay for residential or nursing care.

Change the licensing laws back to how they used to be and ban drinking alcohol on the streets and giving the police powers to enforce it.

Stop fat cats creaming off all the money. Stop bonuses for them and make them pay for their own pensions.

Well there are many more.

What would influence you to vote for a party apart from the traditional I have always voted for them policy?

General things I'd like to see, off the top of my head..

Dumping ID cards. Eliminating all the excessive CCTV everywhere.
Promoting people/community over current car dominance = more pedestrian crossings in villages & greater subsidisation of public transport etc. Banning bloody building work and lawn mowers on Sunday mornings. Teaching kids to meditate from infants school onwards.
Allowing people to live in caravans/boats/tipi's/Wooden buildings whatever, on their own land for as long as they want without requiring planning permission. Legalising drugs. One year community based National Service for all school leavers. Legalising raves.. ;-)

Dream on Sis' dream on.

The return of responsibility.
The death of the blame culture.
If things go wrong and it's your fault, don't try to blame everybody else in sight.
If your child breaks the law, and is under the age of criminal responsibilty, then you the parent should be charged with the offence.
In most cases a properly brought up child would not have done the deed, so it IS your fault anyway.
No more should children be able to tell adults to eff off, as the law can't touch them. If you dare to take them to task, verbally, for breaking the law, the next thing you get is the parent/s of said child wanting to beat the shit out of you.
Yes I know all kids aren't like that, but too many are, and it needs to be stopped.
Stop kids being able to ruin a teacher's career by falsely accusing them of molesting them. This leads to the teacher being immediately suspended from their job, until the accusation is proven to be false.
In the meantime the teacher has the threat of losing their job hanging over them, sometimes for months on end.
If the accusation is proved false, then the child should be punished, not left to snigger at the poor teacher who's life they tried to ruin.
What party would bring in rules to achieve all that I wonder. None I suppose.

JM

I agree with a lot you have to say there John.

Nice dream there Crow Sister. You missed forcing all cafe's to sell space cake :-)

Maybe we should insist that all MP's when delivering speeches about what they will do when in power, she be done with lie detectors present. That would sort them out. Mind you, we wouldn't have a parliament then I suppose. :-)

That last wouldn't work. You'd only catch the ones who knew the difference between lying and telling the truth. The worst offenders believe that if they say something that means it cannot be a lie.

A lot of the above, but more than ANY other thing, the day after the election, forgetting about party politics and getting down to governing the country for the benefit of the populace.

And I'm not holding my breath either.

There is one overriding thing, and for it we should be prepared to go to the barricades.

Should the rich be allowed to go on stealing from the poor?

That belief is at the heart of everything the conservatives do - even their policies about recovery from the recession. We know perfectly well from the 20s and 30s that cuts make recessions worse. But the rich bastards propose cuts no - precisely because that means that the poor will have to pay, while the rich and their accountants escape.

Everything else is fiddling while Rome burns.

Another Etonian, and another heir to a multimillion fortune are targetting YOU for thier benefit.

Wise up.

Blinkers working well I see Richard.

Low paid workers exempt from pay freeze.

Higher tax rate of 50 p in the pound to remain.

one year longer to work (which doesn't take any money away, rather the reverse, though the difference is small).

Stack that up against

Ten p in the pound tax band abolished

Attempting to put that right, a policy which doesn't re-imburse anybody earning less than twelve thousand, but gives a tax break to everybody else right up to fifty thou.

Which of these is Cameron policy (planned), and which is Brown policy (already implemented)

Which of those is benefitting the rich, and which is screwing the poor?.......Brown is the answer to both.

A propos of that increase of one year before pension, there are many, myself included, who would have liked to work on for a lot more than one year, but Mr Brown wimped out on age discrimination law, so WE don't get the choice, notwithstanding the fact that it would help the economy if we WERE working.

That's the bottom million only Don. What's the population, nearly 60 million?

No further higher rate of tax, and STILL a reduction of Inheritance Tax that will benefit only the 3,000 richest people in the country (that includes Cameron and Osoborn) rather than the Labour proposals to reduce impact on Principal Private Residence only.

I'm happy to work the extra year (hell, an extra five) - who will guarantee that actual right to work or even produce an economy with a chance for that right to work? Will your masters give you that? Small government and free market capitalism - I should coco.

AND you still have not got a grip on the response to the 10p band fiasco. It was a cockup. It's been fixed, via a benefit structure.

Face the bloody facts. The conservatives are government by the rich, for the rich.

Have you got it? Cameron and Osborn will pay lip service to the poor until they are in power. Then, as always, they will screw the working man, and even more the non-working man (includes woman - just like Shagger Parkinson did) - they are ALREADY talking about dismantling the welfare state and reducing the benefits culture.

Aux armes, citoyens!

PS. Read history. We know from the 20s and 30s that cuts make recessions worse.

The first party that demonstrates that it really is in this with us by declaring that ALL it's MP's will immediately cut their own salaries to say £50k p.a. I'm already sick of paying out for the politicians and banks screwing up.

The conservatives did say that they would do something like that on Question Time last night but since they also said they would reduce waste by cutting the number of MPs I tihnk it was a joke...

The alternative to cuts is even more borrowing.
There is a limit to how much we can borrow, and we may be getting close.
Our creditors will turn off the tap and push up the interest rate we have to pay.

LOL The Tories when they get in will get rid of the shadow cabinet. What a massive saving that will be :-)

""That's the bottom million only Don. What's the population, nearly 60 million?""

Yep, Brown took care of more than a million didn't he? Tot up all the low paid single parents, the pensioners and the lowest paid full timers, and that "cock up" hit over fifteen million.

You say it was taken care of?.....True, with a greater cockup which paid back everbody from £50,000 earnings down to £12,000. Below £12,000 we only got less than half back.

So tell me how do those two compare for starving the poorest?

Don T.

True, with a greater cockup which paid back everbody from £50,000 earnings down to £12,000.

And I forgot to mention, in the course of that, workers earning between £18,000 and £50,000 were given back money THEY HADN'T EVEN LOST!

Veeeerrrryyy Clever.

I love the way you talk about cuts by Cameron as if Brown was planning anything different.

He'll be cutting everything, but he'll do as he always does, and set the implementation for a date when HE won't be there to take the blame.

I would ALMOST like to see him win, so I could spend the next five years saying I f**king well TOLD you so!

ALMOST, but not quite....I'm right down there at the poorer end of the spectrum, and I CAN'T AFFORD the useless twerp.

I've always been at the bottom of the pay leagues, and I've always had more money in my pocket under the Tories, so YOU may think they look after the rich, but MY mileage differs.

Don T.

Gosh, we still haven't sorted the country out? I don't know!
Here's some more ideas...

Increase the priority for alcohol addiction treatment in NHS (which is *vast* social problem among poorer communities) to match its social impact compared to other less socially acceptable drugs and addictions (which amount to a far smaller percentage of social problems overall).
As for junkies, give them what they actually want: i.e heroine on the NHS.
Legalise safe, healthy inspected brothels with state vetted Madames.
Freedom to both roam and camp in UK upon the land that was previously stolen from the people.
Keep repeat offending sex offenders in prison for the full length of their actual life.
Get rid of student loans and return to student grants.

Still dreaming..
Have contraception confidentially and freely available from the school nurse in secondary school.
