Subject: RE: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Helen Date: 17 Dec 97 - 09:15 PM Joe, Don't forget Eric Bogle's Somebody's Moggy. It's in the database. Worth a look, but a lot of people got upset when he sang it - of course. Helen |
Subject: RE: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Helen Date: 17 Dec 97 - 09:18 PM Sorry, it's called Nobody's Moggy Now, and someone else has written a parody on Bogle's other famous song: No Man's Land. These are the search results from the database. NOBODY'S MOGGIE NOW
NOBODY'S MOGGY'S LAND (No Moggy's Land)

Subject: RE: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Dale Rose Date: 18 Dec 97 - 12:40 AM I am afraid these are only remotely related, but here they are anyway.
Why did the chicken cross the road?
To prove to the armadillo that it could be done.
(That is likely only funny to Southerners, Northerners can substitute any number of possums for armadillo, but it just isn't the same.)
What did the banjo player do when he got lost in the woods?
He decided to follow the armadillo out to the road.
Herb, I'm sorry that I am no help on your original question, but after the first of the year when I go back to work, I will see what I can do to scrape that one up for you. (OK, I'm done!) |
Subject: RE: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: dulcimer Date: 18 Dec 97 - 03:07 AM It's not music but check out the menu at the Road Kill Cafe, cartalk.com. Maybe someone can put it to music. |
Subject: RE: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Bruce O. Date: 18 Dec 97 - 10:53 AM Hey, "There's a dead skunk in the middle of the road" was a real song that was sung by some country/Western singer about 25 years ago. |
Subject: RE: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Jon W. Date: 18 Dec 97 - 11:04 AM Yeah, "Dead Skunk" was sung by Loudon Wainwright III and is in the DT. Also sung on road trips (for obvious reasons) by the "Incomparable BYU Cougar Marching Band" of which my wife was a proud member in the early-mid 1970's. |
Subject: RE: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Helen Date: 18 Dec 97 - 06:35 PM What about Jim Morrison's (The Doors) song about Indians scattered on the highway. He said in an interview I read or heard that when he was a kid he had seen a car accident somewhere and the was a truckload of Indians who ended up scattered all over the highway, so he wrote a song about it when he was older. Subject: RE: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Nonie Rider Date: 18 Dec 97 - 06:51 PM Or the Austin Lounge Lizard's "Bonfire of the Vanities," I believe it is? A none-too-sympathetic account of a truckload of art objects on their way to bring culchah to the American peasantry, which were burned in an accident:
There's a truckload of art a-burning on the highway, |
Subject: RE: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Bert Date: 19 Dec 97 - 02:15 PM The truckload of Indians reminds me of a time when I was in Iran. I was driving into town along this long straight road and I saw, way in the distance, a couple of vehicles stopped. ANOTHER wreck! there were lots of them out there. Well as I got nearer I could see it was a smallish pickup. I still couldn't make out any details but there was a lot of red in the road. I got a grip on my stomach and continued on, I had to get into town. Nearer still I could see that the truck was on its side and what looked like severed limbs in the road. Yechh, my stomach was really churning by now. When I finally got close enough, I saw that it was a truckload of watermelons. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: GUEST,Texas Date: 07 Nov 10 - 11:16 PM By a group called (I believe) The Blue and the Grey. I am searching for a song about a soldier gone to war and times when people prayed for him. Can't remember the name. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: GUEST,Texas Date: 07 Nov 10 - 11:20 PM I failed to say they were by the same group. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: ClaireBear Date: 08 Nov 10 - 12:09 AM Well, I found a song called "The Blue and the Grey" by a group called Lucero on YouTube (click here), and I see that the lyrics are online at various lyrics sites. If that is the song, then I see they have other songs on YouTube that are war-themed, so perhaps the one about the family praying is there too. Good luck with your search -- and by the way, for a request like this you should start a new thread titled something like "Lyr req: Songs by The Blue and the Grey", as people will be unlikely to find your question tacked onto a thread about a completely different song. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Melissa Date: 08 Nov 10 - 01:04 AM Guest Texas, Is the one you're looking for The Rebel Soldier (will my soul pass through the southland)..the Blue and Gray group I'm familiar with does that one (and Half a dozen possums in the middle of the road) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: GUEST,Texas Date: 09 Nov 10 - 01:23 AM It's not Lucero nor "The Rebel Soldier, but I appreciate your suggestions. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Melissa Date: 09 Nov 10 - 01:27 AM Darn.. did you try looking at their site (if they have one) and checking the cds to see if the one you're after is listed? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Melissa Date: 09 Nov 10 - 01:34 AM Guest Texas, ClaireBear is right..you'd have a pretty good chance of getting the answer you're looking for if you start a new thread with a clear subject line. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ten possums in the middle of the road From: Waddon Pete Date: 09 Nov 10 - 07:50 AM So how's about these ten possums? Is it a version of 10 green bottles where they get run over one at a time? .....or is it a variant of the poor old man who was crossing the road? Best wishes, Peter |
