Subject: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Murray MacLeod Date: 10 Jul 05 - 06:18 PM http://earth.google.com/ Search for WMDs, check if your neighbour has mowed their lawn, peer through the windows of Buckingham Palace. The world is literally your oyster (if you like to examine your oyster from all angles, as I do ...) |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Metchosin Date: 10 Jul 05 - 06:34 PM well it is not amazing me, because I use a Mac....too bad. |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Amos Date: 10 Jul 05 - 06:40 PM Google Earth is a broadband, 3D application that not all computers can run. Apple Macintosh computers are not supported at this time (but we are working on it). Windows-based desktop PCs older than 4 years old may not be able to run it. Windows-based notebook PCs older than 2 years old may not be able to run it. A However, if you go to maps.google.com and type in an address you can see a sat photo or a map of the region, as you prefer. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Donuel Date: 10 Jul 05 - 08:47 PM I'll have to download the exe upstairs on the "modern puter". Much of what they offer used to cost upwards to thousands of dollars from private sites. |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: jacqui.c Date: 10 Jul 05 - 09:01 PM WOW! |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Clinton Hammond Date: 10 Jul 05 - 09:17 PM "check if your neighbour has mowed their lawn" Except that most of the images are 2 or 3 years old... ..."3D application that not all computers can run." Works fine on my old POS.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Mark Cohen Date: 10 Jul 05 - 09:48 PM Anybody know if there's any malware stuck to the sides? Just wondering--it seems like much of the "free" stuff that's available these days is just a conduit for adware, spyware, and the like. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Clinton Hammond Date: 10 Jul 05 - 09:49 PM It scanned as clean for me So you can still your paranoia :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Bill D Date: 10 Jul 05 - 09:53 PM I got me a copy of Google Earth...and it IS amazing. I can zoom down and see the cars in my driveway. Of course, I live in a major metro area where lots of photos are taken....not all areas are done yet...and some 'security' related spots will never be allowed online....but I can now post images to guide folks to my house for sings! and this thing is much easier to use than previous aerial photo sites. Technology marches on... |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: mack/misophist Date: 10 Jul 05 - 11:03 PM I'm out of it. They don't do linux. |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Bill D Date: 10 Jul 05 - 11:26 PM I see reasons to have a dual-boot computer, for JUST such items. I know a guy who does Linux for everything except his tax program. |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Kaleea Date: 11 Jul 05 - 01:18 AM I'm not worried, I keep a clone in my house. In fact, my house is also a clone. As is my driveway & car. I maintain a domicile in an undisclosed location. The veep is my neighbor, by the way. You all should come over for one of his parties. The drinks he serves are the real wmd's. Oh yeah, & I'm insured by Smith & Wesson. But I really don't need it. The "house guarded by trained attack cat" sign on the porch sends shivvers down the spines of bad guys. Not to mention the picture of an 800 pound Bengal tiger on the door, with "Fluffy" inscribed at the bottom. |

Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 11 Jul 05 - 10:21 AM Oh - and it bypasses Win98SE... |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Bill D Date: 11 Jul 05 - 11:39 AM I presume they held off doing this until a significant number of folks DID have the broadband and XP it takes to run it right. My first 'puter ran Win3.1 at 14,000baud and had a 600mg drive - partitioned!...and I do NOT long for those days!...but that's what I first accessed Mudcat with. GoogleEarth is fascinating....and it and similar stuff will become important givens of daily life, just as GPS is for many. Get those faster 'puters and broadband as soon as it is possible, folks...you will be glad. |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: s6k Date: 11 Jul 05 - 12:09 PM hey thanks for this, it sounds AMAZING.... but i havent got it yet, its on its way as we speak. ill let you know what i think when i get it |

Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: GUEST,Mrr Date: 21 Jul 05 - 10:34 AM Just go to maps.google, no need to download the Earth thing - way better than MapQuest. Yesterday when they were commemorating the Moon landing they added in MOON satellite pix, which really need to be seen, especially if you zoom in one zoom at a time... really fascinating! |
Subject: RE: BS: Google amazes once more ... From: Bill D Date: 21 Jul 05 - 10:56 AM maps.google is not the same thing as "The Earth thing" ..both are useful in different but complementary ways. |
