Subject: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: Wesley S Date: 03 Dec 08 - 02:30 PM Two pounds worth. And it's still green. Gobi desert stash |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: gnu Date: 03 Dec 08 - 02:39 PM From the link... "A barrage of tests proves the marijuana possessed potent psychoactive properties and casts doubt on the theory that the ancients only grew the plant for hemp in order to make clothing, rope and other objects. They apparently were getting high too." Yeah. They got high and that is when the thought hit them that they could make shit outta that shit... man... shiiiit! |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: JohnInKansas Date: 03 Dec 08 - 03:26 PM They also mentioned that after 2,700 years the material found had virtually zero remaining potency. (A warning to get some fresh goods occasionally?) The comment that the stash stash "is quite similar to what's grown today" suggests that Chinese archaeologists aren't quite up to speed on some of the newer genetically-modified/hybrid varieties currently popular (or that some modern users/sellers greatly exaggerate the potency of their "stuff"). Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: Bert Date: 03 Dec 08 - 03:51 PM I think that the statute of limitations may be up on that stash. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: Wesley S Date: 03 Dec 08 - 03:56 PM I wonder what it was called back then. Gobi Gold? |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: fretless Date: 03 Dec 08 - 09:25 PM A new find, perhaps, but an old story. Herodotous wrote about the ancient Scythians getting high in "vapor" baths -- they'd burn the hemp in enclosed tents (sort of like standing inside of a reefer!), and excavations of tombs in teh Altai mountains of Central Asia during the 20th century recovered braziers used for burning the pot along with residue from the plants. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: artbrooks Date: 03 Dec 08 - 09:55 PM Dude was Irish (or at least Celtic)...kinda figures... |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: GUEST,dianavan Date: 03 Dec 08 - 09:58 PM "Before the burial, someone had carefully picked out all of the male plant parts, which are less psychoactive..." Who are these Gobi people? |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: JohnInKansas Date: 03 Dec 08 - 10:53 PM "This individual was buried with ... a kongou harp." It figures - - - he was a musician(?). John |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: Lonesome EJ Date: 04 Dec 08 - 12:01 AM Ancient dude was a friggin viper, man! He was a Celtic-speakin, harp-playin, bongaphile! and I say...right on, Mummy guy! Long may you twist em up and burn em down up in your Gobi man heaven! |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: Ebbie Date: 04 Dec 08 - 12:23 AM Ah, Beaubie...? |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: Charley Noble Date: 04 Dec 08 - 07:50 AM What I find even more amazing is that the pot was found stashed in a "zip-locked" bag (see photo)! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: Bobert Date: 04 Dec 08 - 08:19 AM Hey, ya'll... I did not have sex with that... (No, Boberdz... Wrong denial...) Sorry, (cough), I don't know nuthin' about that weed... I wasn't even around 2700 years ago... Plus, I din't know the guy all that well... (cough...) B;~) |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: VirginiaTam Date: 04 Dec 08 - 10:09 AM I can't beleive that weed was for smoking. There were no munchies found among the grave goods. I mean, that would be really bad planning. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: PoppaGator Date: 04 Dec 08 - 12:01 PM Ancient beliefs among those folks in the Gobi may have held that the dead, in their disembodied state, would not need to, or even be able to, eat ~ but that they would certainly appreciate catching a nice buzz. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: PoppaGator Date: 04 Dec 08 - 12:12 PM By the way ~ I'm particularly astonished that they could determine that the corpse was that of a "blue-eyed" man. The color of mummies' skin is not preserved ~ they're all very dark black regardless of their orignal skin-tone in life. I would have thought that eyeballs would be even more subject than epidermal tissue to decomposition, or at least drastic alteration, over the centuries. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: VirginiaTam Date: 04 Dec 08 - 12:33 PM back to the food thing... it is well known that food stuffs were included in the grave goods across centuries, continents and cultures. If this dude was afforded prime weed by his tribe, then he damn sure was entitled to a few Yak treats. Time for tea! |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: open mike Date: 04 Dec 08 - 12:50 PM yep he had the munchies for sure... |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: Bobert Date: 04 Dec 08 - 06:13 PM P-Gator, That was a typo... It meant to read "blurry eyed man"... B;~) |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: PoppaGator Date: 05 Dec 08 - 01:47 PM Bobert: Aha! Now I see, much more clearly! ;^) |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: gnu Date: 05 Dec 08 - 02:22 PM Yeah... I see it too. Apologies to George Carlin, "Toledo Window Box." |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: Cluin Date: 05 Dec 08 - 05:36 PM Did they have Zig-Zag papers back then? How about mallomars? |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds oldest pot stash - busted From: olddude Date: 06 Dec 08 - 11:25 AM I heard that they also found a Grateful really Dead CD next to the stash! It was the groups early ancestors, The leader was named Mohammad Garcia |
