I woke up to find an enormous spider on the wall just above my head. Then I cut my finger slicing fruit. Then a socket in the kitchen turned out to be fused. This was important because...my main present, a dishwasher, would be arriving shortly. My lovely husband killed the spider, stuck a plaster on my flowing blood, changed and rewired the socket without electrocuting himself, put all the different products in the different compartments of the thing (salt stuff, shine aid and a tablet) and the first dishwasher I've ever owned was soon humming away. Brilliant! Isn't he a gem?

Ha! I second that, Happy Dishwasher! I love to cook from scratch as much aspossible, but the mess cooking from scratch makes afterwards so yucky. A dishwasher must be great!

Thank you very much everyone for your kind wishes. We did have a lovely day; my neighbours invited us round to their parents' house 2 miles away in an isolated village for a gorgeous barbecue in the evening. On the way there the full Harvest Moon was rising over their little church tower, and a flock of partridges hurried along in front of us. Makes being a year older bearable!

How lovely to have still more Good Wishes! Thank you all again! Lizzie's quite right you know, my childhood was absolutely idyllic, and I've often felt very blessed to have had so much fun and freedom.
The dishwasher is super and I don't know why I was so stubborn about getting one. It's true, Lizzie, you can make a huge mess and then sling it all in the machine. Great! As for the big spiders, they seem to have stopped appearing now, thank goodness.
