Well, probably no one cares 'round here but the Detroit Pistons just won the NBA championship and I love it!

Why?

First of all, I'm a basketball fan.

Second, I'm a Washington Bullets (Wizzards) fan and thou the Bullets are the worst prosports teams in the universe, 3 of the 5 starters for the Pistons used to be Bullets...

So it was like rootin' fir the Bullets in other folks uniforms...

Go Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace.

We Bullet fans still love you guys...

And.... heck with the Lakers... They've won enough....

Twas great to see LA get their asses whuppped. Also, some quite excellent basketball in the second to the last game, which is when Detroit really won. Last night's game was very anti-climactic by comparison, except to those hard-core Detroit fans I'm sure. :) And congrats to them! Their boys definitely deserved to win.

You don't get what either I or Bobert meant, Blackcatter. If you did, you wouldn't be making such a silly to do over nothing.

It isn't about "screw the losers". It is about the poor city team--Detroit--beating the rich city team--LA. The LA Lakers have more of the highest paid players, just like the NY Yankees do in baseball. The Lakers are also perennial winners of the NBA title, so Detroit were the underdogs going into the finals.

And the Lakers beat MY team in the semis.

But apparently, you aren't a basketball fan.

I'm a basketball fan from 'round D.C. Do you know what that means? Yup, the longest streak of bad luck, bad decisions and bad bad since 1979 when the Bullets won the NBA championship. Since then there has been no team in the NBA that has had a longer stretch of badness. If there was any reason for a basketball fan to quit, Ive got it but...

... basketball is basketball. It's an exciting game and I enjoy watching it. I also enjoyed playing it which I was still doing at age 37 when I blew out my right knee one night in a South Richmond pick-up game.

But to basketball fans (not blind partisans) good basketball is good basketball. The fact that the Detroit team was being written off before the series and they came to play the Goliath's of basketball is an American story in itself... No, it ain't about "losers" but "winners", and team play, and determination. I don't consider the Lakers losers. Heck, they were in the finals, weren't they? Losers aren't in the finals....

Yeah, I'm glad that LA didn't win because I like to see different teams have success...

Basketball ain't Iraq, it's basketball... "True" fans appreciate it.

I grew up with season tickets to the Lakers in the day of Wilt and Kareem, so I understand about winning often. Of course comparing them, like GUEST did, to the Yankees is hardly fair. In 98 years of the
World Series, the Yankees won 38 times (39% of the time). In the 53 years of the NBA finals, the Lakes won it 14 times (5 times from Minneapolis) or 26% of the time and guess what, the Celtics have won it 2 times more. Also, since the Lakers moved to L.A., 12 teams have won the championship, many of them multiple times, hardly has the Lakers dominated the way the Yankees (who, by the way, are the woldseries winner 49% of the time since 1923 when they won their first one).

In today's salary-capped NBA, it's the owners who should be blamed for having year after year of losing.
