GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) -- A Southern California woman was in custody Tuesday after authorities said she drugged her estranged husband, tied him to a bed, cut off his penis and put it through a garbage disposal.

Garden Grove police Lt. Jeff Nightengale said that Catherine Kieu Becker drugged a meal and served it to the victim, whose name was not released, shortly before the attack Monday night.

Nightengale said the 51-year-old man felt sick, went to lie down and lost consciousness. The 48-year-old Becker then tied the victim's arms and legs to the bed with rope, removed his clothes and attacked him with a 10-inch kitchen knife as he awoke, Nightengale said.

"He was conscious when his penis was removed," Nightengale said.

Nightengale said Becker put the penis in the garbage disposal and turned it on.

Nightengale said Becker called 911 and indicated to arriving officers that the victim was in the next room. Paramedics found him tied to the bed, bleeding profusely.

Bail for Becker was set at $1 million after she was booked at the Orange County Jail for investigation of aggravated mayhem, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, administering a drug with intent to commit a felony, poisoning and spousal abuse.

Wow. If she spends the rest of her life stamping license plates for 25 cents an hour, I hope she has to pay 24 cents of it to her husband as partial restitution. There ain't enough money in the world to compensate him.

One wonders what he had done to get her so riled up - can't think of ANYTHING bad enough to warrant that, unless he forgot to put the top on the toothpaste again.........

Gives "going down the drain" a whole new meaning, doesn't it?

He probably left the toilet set up once too often.

Although that does seem a bit extreme, doesn't it.....just slamming the lid down on his willy would have sent the "put it down" message loud and clear? She didn't have to chop it off.....and as for feeding it down the garbage disposal.....erk.

Cheers

It's a miracle he didn't bleed to death, there are major blood vessels there. How evil. I hope she gets a long sentence.

A woman in my home town used a shotgun to blow her (abusive) husband's head off. He was in bed, in a drunken stupor.
Would that have been preferable?

My wife doesn't come from my home town, nor California.
I might LOOK stupid, but.....

No, murder is not preferable to mayhem.

Cutting off a man's penis is somewhat analogous to, say, gouging someone's eye out.

But, hey, I've got two eyes.

Well, at least she cut it off before putting it in the garbage disposal. I'd think a clean cut would be preferable to gradual grinding away.

I'm sure they could build him a new one. Transexuals do it all the time. He might even be able to order one that performs better then his first one. I just hope their medical insurance was paid up and current.

I thought that this was going to be about the new form of drug resistant Gonorhea that only reveals symptoms in the male in the form of pain and copius puss flowing from the penis.

There is still hope for a transplant for the victim. Obvious jokes aside, a successful transplant of a pig penis is better than nothing.
ASPCA concerns for the donor remains a stumbling block.

As usual, Wikipedia has an interesting article about mayhem .

It doesn't say anything about there being different levels of mayhem, but it makes sense to me that destroying one of something you have two of is less serious than destroying both, or the only.

"Aggravated mayhem" might be something unique to California law.

Wikipedia says this about "aggravated battery":
Aggravated battery in criminal law is a more serious form of battery, and is considered a felony. Aggravated battery can be punished by a fine or more than a year in prison. Simple battery which is a misdemeanor can only be punished by less than one year in jail, or by a fine.

Acts most often defined under aggravated battery are:

•        use of a deadly weapon
•        battery in which serious bodily injury occurs, and
•        battery against a child, woman or police officer.
I don't see how Wikipedia can make a categorical statement like that, considering that any of the 50 states can define it differently, or prescribe a different punishment. This is one case where I would recommend taking Wikipedia with a grain of salt.

It all started with a simple misunderstanding. He was very tired. He said "Hon, I'm just to beat to do any of that pushup stuff tonight; would you mind just whacking it off for me this time?'

I'm sure he will be calling Chaz Bono for recommendations of plastic surgeons. I heard Chaz recently saying there was very little interest in the medical community since there are so few in need. Seems to me that with the Bobbitt syndrome growing in popularity and the increase number of folks doing the transgender thing, this might be a fast growing specialty.....................
