John's message in this song, in this video, is more powerful, more NEEDED today than EVER before, so....pass it round, because The People are *finally* coming together to take their world back again....

olddude: "Sadly that isn't going to happen anytime soon I think."

I think you are correct. If they put it off, long enough, the public gets used to it...then it becomes the norm....then the public, conditioned, tend to do nothing. Once that happens, then the errors that we've gotten used to, is yet just another stepping stone, that takes us further away, from things being corrected.
By that time, which ever political party adopts that policy, digs their heels in, and the followers of that party, lose their 'say'.
For instance, can you believe, that the Debit-cratic party is so much in favor of every socialistic government entitlement, when before, a Democratic President once said, "Ask NOT what your country can do for YOU, but rather, ask what you can do FOR your country."
My, how things have changed!
By the way, John Kennedy said that in his inaugural address, but it was penned by John Steinbeck.
Nonetheless, he was correct...and look at where the Democrats are now!!!

Regards,

GfS

"Ask NOT what your country can do for YOU, but rather, ask what you can do FOR your country."

That's a pretty socialist sentiment. James Connolly couldn't have put it better.

Yeah, those days won't be comin' back around in any of our life times...

The 60s (which really didn't end until the mid 70s) was it's own time and it scared "the establishment" to death and since there has been a a change of culture that has been pushed that is not at all grassroots but corporate... The propaganda has been turned up... The selling and pushing of fear has been turned up... People are not quite as ready to step to the plate as they once were...

Maybe another dumbass war will get 'um going, I donno... No matter, nothin' is worth another dumbass war... We're kinda full of dumbass wars for a while...

I was, however, involved in almost all of the anti-war protests in DC during the Bush mad-dash-to-Iraq days and there were kids there who were very much like kids I marched with in the 60's... That wa encouraging... Maybe, just maybe, there is a counter-culture large enough to make a splash... I'd like to think so...

One thing is fir sure is that of the musicans that best exemplified the counter-culture, John (with Yoko) was da' man (with da' woman...)

What a loss... Seems that the best and the brightest of that era were all taken out... The world could use another John Lennon right about now but none out there as far as I can see...

I mean, good folkie protest song writers like Jim Page but people don't know Jim Page... They knew John Lennon and they either respected him or hated him but they knew him...

Sorry, those days are gone...

Just think, now YOU ARE the 'establishment'!....What scares you to death?

Cheers, have a cup of Tea,

David Cameron's dream of "smashing government monopolies" is actually a determination to hand over a monopoly of goods and services to his own buddies in the city. "Government monopolies", which have provided health care, pensions, roads, schools and administrative care may have been imperfect, but at least the public had the chance to change the masters at the table. In our brave new world, we will return to the system that only "deserving cases" (those who can afford to get to the table) will have any right to be represented there. Still, in the brave new world this is "choice" (for the right people of course) and the undeserving poor will be shafted as we always were in the past. I really am baffled that so few can see beyond this hypocrisy. The main thing wrong with nationalised transport services, utilities etc was that the Conservatives and their buddies were not getting their fingers in the till.

"...People are Pissed Off....." - Sounds Like a Revolution -

Check out Michael Franti, amongst many others...The word *is* getting out there, but it's taking longer because 'they' own all the media so the music's hidden away, but bit by bit more and more people are hearing the message...

"This Movement is REAL, and this Movement is coming into existence because of US" taken from the above link...

The thing is ALL of us have to be part of this Movement, if we want Change to happen. It's no good saying it never will, because it already is, but you have to use all at your disposal to help get this music, this message, out as well, be it using your FB, Myspace or Twitter pages, your voice, your radio stations, your videos, your words on messageboards. Whatever you are able to do might touch someone else and so the ripples start to move out further and further....

We *have* to turn this world around for our children and for their children's children too...let alone the planet, the very place that we call Home.

It *can* be done, if enough people pull together...

Yes alanabit, I remember the phrase 'Power to the People' was hijacked by Maggie 'No Such Thing As Society' Thatcher in the 80's. By this she was referring to the fact that she felt that the Nationalised (dirty word) Companies should be sold off and then the little person could buy shares and have some control; but all the people already owned such companies already and had some kind of control, albeit it not an effective one. So we (or those who believed in this rubbish) bought a couple of shares in British Gas and the like which were eventually bought by the big boys; control totally lost.
It's now one of those meaningless phrase the the politicians love, rather like 'choice', 'freedom','democracy', 'fairness' etc.
The thin end of the wedge is something the people don't spot: it's now £6 to park in a hospital car park, surely a totally immoral thing for the sick and their visitors. But it crept in and we accept it and even think it's right. It would be so easy to reverse but we just take it. No union spirit anymore.

This is going to get up a lot of people's noses, but you have just put into words exactly how I feel about it all Doc John.
In Germany, a substantial part of my pay disappears to the health insurance companies before I see it. I can live with that, but they now have the right to levy mandatory surcharges, which I must pay directly. Not only that, they can now raise them as and when they please and they have the power to freeze my bank account without a court order if I am in arrears. The Conservatives will not declare this as their policy in the UK, but over the next ten years, I believe you can expect to see them moving in this direction. It will be done incrementally, as it has been over here. You see, at the moment, too much money is being spent on treating patients and not enough has been finding its way into the pockets of the shareholders and the people who run the "service" companies.

Proper political/revolutionary rap is rare on the ground compared to the days of glorious Old Skool. But Sun R.A. is one contemporary hip-hop artist following in the honorable tradition of rhythmic agitation. I think you'll like the lyrics LC:

Break the Chain

"(Chorus)
I reminisce on times, my rhymes never miss //
It's a bitch ain't it, the shit's tainted, operating //
In the interests of the rich, while we ain't got shit //
But the little bit of crumbs that gets thrown our way //
We on our way, to make a change //
And all I say is revolution break the chains"

I support and like his song "Imagine" the best of all of his output.

The "people" in America today don't want power, they want to escape except for a statistical few who are enlightened. There is another minority who want to hoard money.

I think if people could know the truth, they would have the courage to take action. But too many are listening to prophets with profits as their only value. Too many are looking to the past as a highway to the future. And too many feeling that they can't have an impact.

John was right about a lot of things. And I wish we still had him here to fight beside us.

I wonder what he would have made of how things have gone? Would he have been disillusioned after being so optimistic before his shooting, would he have continued the struggle with or without Yoko? I wish he was here if only to remind the young what revolution is about. Perhaps he would have backed the 'rioting students' for a start or set-up protests for anyone unfairly under house arrest.

I still wish John was here.

And for the record, I was a pain-the-ass to my supervisors at the Department of Social Service back then as I am today... Some things don't change... But I survived those years with a sense of humor in my day job and my country rock band, "Doctor Rupert (me) & the Wiggly Digits"...
