Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: C-flat Date: 09 Mar 02 - 10:06 AM I can see eight of them up to now but if I'm right you are taking "liberties", in number 10 for example? |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Mar 02 - 10:18 AM In the interest of those who come along later and wish to take the quiz, I've magically turned Jon's answers white. (Not deleted, just invisible.) Jon, if you want the editing reversed, please let me know. --JC I know they are not all right but here goes...

Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Jeri Date: 09 Mar 02 - 10:24 AM Jon, we're not supposed to tell our answers so everyone gets a chance to try. "As before, please avoid posting answers to the thread, but comments are welcome!."
There are going to be a wide variety of answers for #7 |

Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Paul from Hull Date: 09 Mar 02 - 10:34 AM Ah sorry.... (MUST Refresh more often before I post).....I might have caught that apology then.... *sigh* *goes off, looking VERY contrite* |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Mar 02 - 10:39 AM Don't worry Paul, it was entirely my fault... If I had have read fully before diving in... Once again, sorry to all - I had not intentions of spoiling the fun. Jon |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Jeri Date: 09 Mar 02 - 10:48 AM Jon, I could do something about that post, y'know...turn your text white or something. And he did not get them ALL right! |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Nigel Parsons Date: 09 Mar 02 - 10:51 AM A little disappointing Jon, but a good job you didn't get them all right then, isn't it. |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Mar 02 - 10:58 AM To be honest Nigel, I have apologised twice and still seem to be getting stick. I am beginning to wish I had spent 10-15 minutes looking up the answers I did not know and giving a bit of thought rather than happily just sitting down with Pip and saying "this is a fun quiz" lets see what we can do... Jon |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Jeri Date: 09 Mar 02 - 11:07 AM Well, I know #5 and you don't, so nyah, nyah! |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Mar 02 - 11:11 AM Thanks for the white, Jeri. Jon |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Paul from Hull Date: 09 Mar 02 - 08:38 PM Good solution Geri! ....& you did way better than I did with attempting to answer them Jon! ...I did MARGINALLY better with the Song Quiz...*G* Good stuff Nigel, btw....I'm enjoying what youre doing. |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Jeri Date: 09 Mar 02 - 09:48 PM Well, I managed to get about 7. I got an answer for 15, but I have no idea if there's only one correct answer. I'm sure #10 is going to turn out to be a very bad pun, but I don't have any ideas. The UK-centered (or should that be centred?) ones give me trouble, but I'm sure the US ones give folks in the UK problems. We have a different collective consciousness. Nigel, I enjoy these quizzes very much, even if I'm not that good at them. |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Hilary Date: 10 Mar 02 - 05:02 AM Come on Nigel, Which ones are being answered, (& which of those were right !) I'm nearly getting tempted to ring my (4 year old) neice as I'm sure she could tell me about Beauty & the Beast. Hilary |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Nigel Parsons Date: 10 Mar 02 - 10:31 AM Hilary, problems so far seem to include: 2, I was asked by one person for a year, =1965 5, You either know it or not, but I've had one correct guess, based on the cast, assuming the instrumentalist was American!! (I believe the actor may actually be Canadian) 10, Yes it is a bad pun. A meaning of "Semi" is easy, but apparently the English language has more expressions & euphamisms for "Intoxicated" than for any other term. 13 & 14, Some confusion, but one is actually used as an instrument. 19, Remember, this is based on a French fairy story entitled ??? 20, another atrocious pun. I'm not PMing this to you, as the problems seem widespread so this may help others. |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Nigel Parsons Date: 10 Mar 02 - 08:24 PM As with the Song Quiz (see "blue Clickie" in original post.) I have no objections to this quiz being used in whole (or in part) elsewhere. Please attribute it. If it accompnies a 'whip round' for charity, then so much the better. I intend posting one more (Wednesday or Thurday B.S.T.) for St Patrick's day. I will happily PM answers to requests if it can be used elsewhere . |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: alison Date: 11 Mar 02 - 01:19 AM I think I got 12 this time thanks Nigel slainte alison |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Paul from Hull Date: 11 Mar 02 - 10:23 AM % is one of the few I got, & yes, the Actor is Canadian (& he's quite a large bloke now...maybe they are going to make him a Province? *G*) |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Paul from Hull Date: 11 Mar 02 - 10:26 AM D'Oh! I meant Number FIVE was one of the ones I got....bloody '%<'i> indeed....silly sod.... |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Paul from Hull Date: 11 Mar 02 - 10:30 AM Oh Hell.....right, thats it....I'm logging off until my brain agrees to work.... |

Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Nigel Parsons Date: 17 Mar 02 - 05:51 AM In a rush to get the quiz & answers for St. Patricks day out, I delayed posting full answers to this one. Answers to all 3 quizzes are now at SQ2 Thanks for your support, I'll wear it always. |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: GUEST,CraigS Date: 17 Mar 02 - 06:33 PM The answer to every question appears to be BODHRAN, which is sometimes spelled TROMBONE, or BANJO. |
Subject: RE: Quiz 2 Instru--mental) From: Nigel Parsons Date: 18 Mar 02 - 04:50 AM I don't care how you spell Bodhran, it's the pronunciation that's the killer. See recent thread! |
