Amsterdam...
Venice....
You need Birmingham to make up the Canal set!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's more canals in Birmingham than there is in Veice.
People ask "Why doesn't it sink into the sea then?"
Quack!!!
Geoff the (I've done Gas Street Basin) Duck.

And I'll be there a couple of days after you've left (arriving Venice 1st November). Don't go pulling the plug on the place so it sinks.

Ok, Kevin, I will get my surface-to-air missile ready, then ;-)

What would you like to come to Munich for in October?
To watch how all the huge beer tents are taken down?

Most of the Octoberfest is in September ...

So why isn't it Septemberfest? I'm very confused.....

The purpose is to confuse non-Munichians ;-)

The Octoberfest always ends on the first Sunday in October and starts 2 weekends before that.

In Munich, the Octoberfest is usually called "Wiesn" which is Bavarian for "Wiese" which means meadow - because the festival is taking place on a big peace of land covered with tarmac and pebbles.

The Oktoberfest doesn't take place on a peace - on this piece of pebbles it isn't so peaceful sometimes. Bavarians often tend to fight hammering their heads with steins.
Reference story:
Lawyer: "Defendant doesn't deny that he hit plaintiff over the head with a stein so that the skull broke. But as the expert witness testified plaintiff's skull is extremely weak. So I ask the jury: What has a man with such a weak skull to do in a beer tent?"

Cheers
Wilfried

Geoff the Duck

I'm sorry to be a dampener but ducks can cope.

The guy who first coined the Brum canal length story admitted 30 years later that he never checked the facts. I saw him on local TV saying it so it must be true.

Now are we talking canals or canal length. And are we talking Brum in the 60's or with the addition of Sutton Coldfield and are we including any navigable drains and the Lake in Cannon Hill Park? Not that The Thame or the Rea are that navigable.

I still wonder if it's true because he also claimed more canal miles than Amsterdam.

I tried to go there once, but found the streets impassably flooded. Is this still the case?

A

Am writing from Venice Friday Evening. The High water (Acqua alta) was here this morning and made Venice even more of a challenge to vavigate in. Walking down a street, only to come to an area under a foot or so of water so you needed to backtrack and try to find an alternative route to wherever you are heading. Hope McGrath doesn,t encounter any deeper water than this, as it does make things a little difficult. It only lasts for a couple hours however. Am getting ready to go out to one last wonderful meal, then back to the states tomorrow AM. Will look forward to getting back to the cat more regularly. See you all soon. jimmyt

A foot or so I can probably manage so long as I take my wellies. Deeper than that might be a problem.

And this website gives the level expected for the tides tides next week, and they look OK. So maybe no need for wellies.
