Subject: BS: Yu post to threads tht push your buttons From: Little Hawk Date: 30 Aug 05 - 08:33 PM You do! I guarantee it. So do I. We all do. Your buttons may be pushed by some or all of the following words: religion Bush Karl Rove liberals conservatives UFOs Shatner racist Chavez Ireland unions capitalists Republicans sexist jOhn from Hull rape graft atheist Or maybe some other words...you pick 'em... The point is, they push your buttons. You have a bone to pick or a vital word of wisdom you must donate to the poor unfortunates who are not as wise or good as you are! Ah, yes. (grin) You do it. I do it. We all do it. And what satisfaction it affords! But what is all this button-pushing drama really an opportunity for? Dawning self-awareness, that's what. Observe what words and subjects keep PUSHING your buttons over and over again on this very forum. Decide if that's useful to you or not. Decide whether you want it to stay that way. Decide what to do about it if you don't want it to stay that way. Why? Because you are not here to change other people! Nope. That's not the purpose of your life. You're here to change yourself. You can do that quite effectively by determining what pushes your buttons and sends you into an emotional frenzy...and getting control of it instead of it controlling you all the time. This will necessitate giving up the comforting mental habit of making other people "wrong", "stupid", "bad", and/or "evil". It doesn't matter what they are, from your point of view, you know why? You weren't born to police the World! Nope. You were born to police yourself and love the World. By golly. For example: Due to lengthy self-observation, I basically have pretty much left the Israeli-Palestinian wrangle to others lately. I long ago said all I needed to about it. I note that my silence on the matter has had no discernable effect one way or another on the ongoing events or the peace process, in this case... (!) Wow, eh? And it has left me more time to compose this little message, which may or may not fall on deaf ears, but that's okay. I'm just expressing myself, right? Self-expression is natural, and can help increase self-awareness...hopefully. So carry, on...and watch for YOUR buttons. I may have just pushed one or two of them right now, without even intending to. That usually happens, doesn't it? |

Subject: RE: BS: Yu post to threads tht push your buttons From: Janie Date: 30 Aug 05 - 11:03 PM Little Hawk, I thank you for the reminder. And you express it with such clarity. Was it Steven Levine or Ram Dass who said "The only work we have to do is on ourselves."? Janie |

Subject: RE: BS: Yu post to threads tht push your buttons From: Donuel Date: 30 Aug 05 - 11:21 PM Thats right, literature, film, art... they all press buttons. Good luck with the recluse guru thing if that is the work you have undertaken. |

Very good LH .... how we can change ourselves for the better ... reflects into positive changes in others. sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: Yu post to threads tht push your buttons From: mack/misophist Date: 30 Aug 05 - 11:42 PM Foolstroupe almost said it for me. I try not to. On the rare occasions when mine are pushed, that's interesting. "An insult is a cup of poison. Any one can hand it to you, but only you can drink it." |

Subject: RE: BS: Yu post to threads tht push your buttons From: Little Hawk Date: 01 Sep 05 - 08:47 PM I take exception to your calling me a "recluse", Donuel. I get out quite often! ;-) John, my lad... th reasn I spelt it tht way was to fit th whole title in the lttl bx There are positive buttons in people too. I'm all for those. That's when you post to a thread because it's about something you like or are attracted to, such as art, literature, film, guitars, etc (as Donuel was good enough to suggest). Such postings do not indicate a problem area in your thinking unless...and this is debatable...they are connected with William Shatner! Then maybe. But not necessarily. |

Subject: RE: BS: Yu post to threads tht push your buttons From: PoppaGator Date: 01 Sep 05 - 11:38 PM We all have "buttons" (interests), and they all can get "pushed." It's just that some of us lack control and self-awareness ~ either occasionally or habitually ~ and get all worked up about certain issues, while others take it all in stride. My favorite topics: New Orleans, my beloved New Orleans, always before but now more than ever. Bob Dylan John Hurt Ireland blues guitars jazz tablature pacifism political controversy, at least temporarily fingerpicking What is folk? (sometimes) What doesn't get a rise out of me at all: Morris dancing Shatner political correctness Sidmouth vegetarianism what is folk? (usually) No offense to those with different buttons than mine, especially about the only-in-the-UK topics, for which I have no reason to be interested. If I was over there, I'd probably love all that stuff. Or some of it anyway. Some photos I've seen recently of Morris dancing looked like Mardi Gras, which I do love. |
